I'm trying to buy G-Force Sports for my 335i and Costco won't sell them to me because the car doesn't have a spare. The rep said that he is only authorized to sell RFT if there isn't a spare. Anyone heard this before?

Never have I heard anything like that.
Alot of places won't install tires that are under the speed rating of OEM recommendation.
Oh well just go somewhere else.

I'm going to use discount tires instead. I can get the g-force for $800 out the door. I'm just surprised that a company would turn away business in this economy. I'm assuming that its a marketing strategy, since the RFT would have cost around $1350 installed. O-well, their lose.

It is just a policy they have. There are some other ones as well that many would seem to find weird. For CostCo BMW put RFT on for a reason and they want to stick with that reason.
CostCo moves a LOT of tires and isn't worried about one customer having fun flats and not installing one set of tires.

They're just covering their own butts...that's all. Just like the fact that tire rack won't sell you run flat tires if your car doesn't have TPM. In this economy of sue happy people you have to CYA.
Oh...and no way I'd bring my BMW to costco...

Why?
The one I was an assistance manager at during school rivaled all the best tire shops. We did stuff right and took care of the cars.
We even had track guys that brought tires they bought from us. Free winter tire swaps, free flat repairs and a host of other positive stuff.

When I was shopping for price, I went to Costco. They told me they would install non runflat tires if I had a repair kit in the car. I got my Goodyear F1 Assymetric tires at Discount tire. I've only put a few hundred miles on so far, but the ride is a lot better. My Z4 now has a suspension. And since the Goodyears are lighter, my car is noticeably faster.

Costco no longer will install tires on aftermarket wheels too. That's too bad, b/c it was only $9 a tire. Mine has nice Hunter equipt and are touchless. I loved going there...always great work.

Why? Because the Sam's Club that I worked at for 4 years hired anyone that would apply whether they had experience or not...pretty much grocery baggers that needed a job and would mount tires for $5.50 an hour. They didn't get paid commission so they didn't care about the quality of work they did...nor did they care at all whether they were even doing work. It surprised me on a daily basis that the "experts" that I worked with were allowed to work on a car let alone have and drive one of their own.
Never would I bring even my Jeep Wrangler to Costco.
