Hey guys. My E32 has a problem with the central locking system..I was told that the DIS software can interface with the General Module (aka ZKE) that controls the locks in my car (among other things) and can tell me where a problem is..

If I went to a dealership and asked to have my car hooked up to a GT1 and for stuff to be checked with DIS, how much would it cost? Nominal fee?

I hope not too much..I've seen screenshots of the DIS interface before, looks like it wouldn't take very much time at all.

TIA.

Depends on how long it takes them to find your problem. The service dept will probably quote you an hour labor to start.

I can take care of it myself, I just want to know what/where the problem is.

So, at MINIMUM, I'm looking at a hour of labour just to check it out? That's atleast 100 bucks or whatever.

F- that. I've seen the screenshots...assuming the GT1 is handy, all they gotta do is plug it to my diag port do a few clicks and then boom, done! Shouldn't take longer than 10-20 minutes....

Try to find and independant bmw specialist. At least the one near me has as much knowledge as the dealers but are a lot cheaper.

A full diagnostic on a dealer computer usually takes atleast 30 mins. Find an indy with DIS, they will probably charge for less than an hour of labor.

Or build a GT1 yourself. ;)

I plan to. I have all of the software and it's been burned to disks..I just need to buy a yellowhead (not cheap) and get around to fixing my old Thinkpad

You don't need a yellow head... just an ADS kit from Fister (just OBDII cable for newer cars without the 20-pin diagnostic port).

Yeah, or that....I've discussed it with Ken before :)

I don't have the money right now either way though :(

What do you mean by an ADS kit?
