View Full Version : Twin Screw Oil Level

Worried that oil was being sucked from my twin screw, I installed one of those catch deals that supposedly traps oil before it can go into the intake.
After 5,000 miles, I've caught not a single drop of oil.
Does this mean:
A. The hose to the catch bottle is blocked, trapping the oil in the SC
b. There is no oil in the supercharger, and it's been running dry with no trouble for 5,000 miles
c. There is no need to monitor oil level as long as I change it every 10,000 miles.
D. None of the above.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Definitely NOT B!! And, just check the hose to answer A. So, I go with C.

Perhaps D
Did you install the catch can right after you completed a TS oil change?
Have you been driving your car, briskly?
How is your catch can set up?

A would be the right thing, kinda. You don't want oil evacuated from the crank case. 'Trapped' is a good thing as long as you are properly venting. B, no way. C, I used to change mine every 3k just to keep and eye on it.

Don't know the answer, but you wouldn't have to worry if you had a sight glass;)

The oil ejecting is blower RPM based. The longer and harder you drive (thus spin the blower faster) the more will blow out. I only really noticed oil spray when I hammered the car. Moderate driving didnt show any loss. When I was low (82mm pulley) boost I never saw any oil loss at all.
I get much less oil loss with the Mobil 1 20w 50 that PSE recommended. I think the slightly heavier wt made a difference.
Change the oil more frequently than 10K.

My experience is similar. No loss of oil in street driving. Lots of oil loss when happily hammering it at the track.
FWIW, I'm using Motul Competition FF Gear Oil.

I was kidding about no oil.
I ran dad's lawnmower for an hour or so once not knowing my little brother was right in the middle of an opil chainge. (The motor would neer turn over again for some reason.)
I love Neil's sight glass idea but I was daunted by the percieved complexity or work of it. Maybe I should boster my fortitude.
Catch is set up as follows --
catch bottle is installed inline between SC and the intake -- inline with the black hose that came with the Eurosport kit. I guess I should verify whether A is the situation by taking the hose off and ,... um.......sucking it.
