Lights went out

Driving home last night I had a nice surprise. Driving down the highway my headlights just shut off on me. Fun right? I'm not sure if all the lights went out as they came right back on. Then a couple more miles down the road they go out again and this time I turn the switch off and back on and then they came back on. It's hard to diagnose an intermittent issue like this but a bad headlight switch is the first thing that comes to mind. Any input? Anyone?

Check trunk wiring, the random wires that ground out can cause all sorts of weird stuff with lights and a number of other things.

After checking all the fuses and studying wiring diagrams I took out the switch to find that the round connector was coming apart from the switch. I tightened it up and now everything works. Never rule out someone elses human error.
