View Full Version : Brad at Evosport Makes Good!!!

I ordered forged pistons through Evosport to ensure I would have the highest quality in design through extensive R&D on race cars. This way if I wanted to go with an extremely aggressive cam profile and a ton of power, the pistons would be up for the task. CP made a mistake machining the valve reliefs too shallow. When Brad at Evosport found this out by getting valve contact on his race motor, he immediately notified those customers who purchased the same piston profile which included myself. Brad assured me that the labor for removing the pistons, sending them to CP to be machined and for reinstalling would all be covered. After some waiting, CP did step up to the plate in order to cover the labor cost associated. Before this happened, Brad at Evosport said that he would take care of me either way. CP made good and paid the labor charge out of pocket to Speed Force Racing (the shop who built my motor). Brad was willing to go above and beyond to make his customers satisfied. I must also mention that CP stepped up to the plate as well which is huge for a piston company! I know of a similar situation where JE would not step up to the plate at all.

I am a satisfied customer since all labor was paid for and I do not have to suck up the expense myself for something that was out of my control. :)

Also, let it be known that there have been some personnel changes at Evosport. Any negative experiences anyone has had or heard of were due to personnel. Now that these changes have been made, there is an extremely bright new future for Evosport! :alright

How long did it take for them to finally refund you? Wasn't it like 4 months with 2 months of going silent?

It took a while but that was originally due to CP and the personnel issue. The last two months was an accounting issue because on their books the check had been sent. I hadn't pursued it really for that time until just last week and then Brad was surprised because he thought it was paid and done.

All good. Check cleared and SFR is paid. :redspot

Wow thats great to hear that a piston supplier would have such great customer service. Ive been looking at getting a set of pistons for my S38 build and after hearing your story I think I may have to give evosport a call for some CPs, do you have any other input about the quality of the CP units? Thanks in advance!

Good news Cameron! Are these shallow valve reliefs similar to what caused this on my CP Pistons? :confused

No. Your car ran a long time without any valve contact. What happened there is due to something else. Evosport only had valve contact because they were using high lift/duration racing profile cams which require deep valve reliefs and CP didn't machine the pistons to spec for said cams.

Hey what's up bud? OK so here is the deal:
1) Economy has hit me hard so I lagged getting the car back up.
2) The cooling fans were beefed up but after a trip to L.A. I found out I still have a slight overheating problem which is unacceptable. So I am through f-ing with custom stuff and I am going back to stock clutch fan/fan shroud/m20 thermostat/Fluidyne radiator which is drop-in and works with before mentioned.
3) I have an issue with my vanos.
4) I have an exhaust leak at one or more of the runners...could be gasket.
5) Supertrapp didn't really work so I am going to try a more conventional Vibrant resonator.

Once that is all dialed then she is going on the dyno for new tune on c16 or q16. I will also play with a 91 octane map and see what combination of psi/afr/timing works best.

I also just received my s52 Elgin regrinded cams today! :devillook Not sure if I want to install them now or wait so I will have a before/after. The before/after is a total pain in the ass but I am willing to do it for technical data for the good of all here. What do you guys think?

Hopefully soon. Look above. She is in the shop right now.

Yes he is. He relied a ton on one particular person and that person did a lot of damage. Ulysses and I were caught in the middle of it.

Well I hope he got rid of that "one" person. First off, CP has never spec'd pistons for any engine for us....that's our job. So, if the piston is wrong, it's on our print. Secondly, ordering something wrong is one thing, installing it without checking clearances, another. That's a basic step of the blueprinting process. Again, that would be our fault.

Glad these guys straightened it out.

Yes he did! As I stated above, making the personnel change was the largest move transitioning into the future for Evosport. Brad is a good guy and he will make sure his future customer service and product are top notch.

Wait, you got another set of regrinds (after I bought that set from you last year)? Damn. So, you finally going to start treating the car like it needs to be by leaving a pair of black marks anytime soon?

Well we've all known you've always been doing alot here for the FI community, above and beyond really. As well as alot of the boost junkies here.

ahhh, feels good to be updated!

To me, it all sounds fabulous. I just can't wait...don't think i've ever been this patient! lol

Keep up the good work :buttrock

:lol Yeah I know. I have had some fun drives with her but this time once she is completely dialed in, all hell will break loose! :devillook

I went with an m52 stock longblock this time to start off with. The m50 NV head was trashed due to a large crack and the blcok is fine, it's chilling as a built shortblock waiting for an e30 m3 some day. So since I have the OBDII m52 head I bought s52 stock cams which are in right now. Then I bought another set of s52 cams and had them sent straight to Elgin. I didn't go crazy but went ahead and had them do the same eact grind they did for bmwperson. he made 723whp@23psi on 93 octane with those same cams. Imagine race fuel and more boost! :devillook

Thanks! I posted a couple videos since I've had the new engine but I don't like to drive the car if it isn't in 100% working order. Once I figured ouot all that needed to be taken care of, it was time to secure a spot in the shop once again. It's a long journey but eventually it will be over and she will be whoring youtube as the beast she is meant to be! :buttrock

I am torn about the cams. I am thinking I might install them and just finish her. Then some day down the road maybe I will do a dyno pull with the stock s52 cams just to show the difference.

DonYes, this is part of the blueprinting process, thus the reason that it is Evosports fault period... Maybe the guy who built Brad's race motor needs to be fired.

(1) he is gone (2) it was found in the blue-printing process.

CP made the pistons DIFFERENT then what we spec'ed. The person here was at fault for not catching it until we were in the middle of the build. CP stepped up and admitted it was their mistake and made it right with us. However, we committed to make it right for the customers before CP did that.

Thanks

Good deal Brad, thanks for clearing that up! It had sounded like a motor ate it, not during the spec'ing process.

Cameron, why not a billet custom cam? Will you see max potential from your car with a reground S52 cam? I know of someone that could hook you up with a beautiful set of cams designed for your specific setup if interested :D!!!

Billet is great, yet too expensive for my blood. I can make enough power on the stock cams, so regrinds will be fine. If the "someone" you are talking about begins with a "G", tell him to go f*ck himself!

Clby, we sell billet turbo cams already. As Cam stated, he wanted a less expensive option for now!
