What can be done with pitted wheels?

The PO let this car sit for awhile. Does it cost a fortune to re-chrome? Can I Krylon chrome paint them of is it too getto? Thoughts?

Your wheels need to be redone, either painted or powder coated.

If they are pitted you are puting good money after bad. They will continue to pit under the paint. Taking off the chrome will cost more than many new wheels. GH

Yeah waste your money when he takes them to get powder coated and they will blast them before they get sprayed. Depending what caused them to pit (weathering), the blasting will take care of it.

Yes, these wheels can be saved! I used Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish which was effective today. The rust is an oxidation of brake dust particles on top of the chrome. None of the chrome had peeled away. The polish loosened the rust which allowed me to scrape it off. The chrome surface is very hard so the surface wasn't bad as the scraping dislodged large chunks of rust. I just have to redo the process again once or twice to get it all off. It's a long process, probably an hour or so per wheel but hey, it's better than paying $700 for new wheels and the cost of dismounting, remounting and balancing.
