My wheels (all four, unfortunately) have quite a bit of wheel curb rash on them. I would like to get them powdercoated black or refinished in a glossy black.
What is the exact process to get this done? Does powdercoating really take up to two weeks? How about just getting the wheels refinished in a glossy black? How long will that take? Several hours? A couple days?
This is my DD and I can not be without a car for two weeks.
Thanks and I'd appreciate any help. Also, does anybody know any reputable places in the MD/DC area?

Clean, light sand, clean, Powder coat and a bit of oven time.....
depends on how backed up they are. Only takes an hour or two for a set of rims, start to finish.
if you have curb rash that will take more depending on how bad it is. 2 weeks is unreasonable, Find another shop

It all depends on the shop. Find one that does everything in house, some outsource there sanding and having the wheels repaired.

+2 yeah, I have to agree with finding one that does everything in-house. Great advice! :cool
I pulled these apart and had them coated the other day

Hey 850girl,
I was just wondering if you've tried to reassemble them yet, and if you've had any difficulties with the mating surfaces and the powercoat. I'm getting ready to do the centers on my 5's and was planning on masking off the outer bolt circle. I know powder has more of a buildup than paint, and was wondering how critical the mating surface btwn the center and hoop are.

the coat is a bit thinner near the back of the rims. they didnt want any seams in the powder coat. Its uniform and will not present a prob.
I ordered new hardware rather than use the old stuff. I actually had to drill out a couple that were stripped :(

Whats the average cost to refinish and paint/powdercoat at a shop?
I might be purchasing a set of 18" style 71's, but they have been painted a very odd color that I need to remove.
