I have stock wheels on my speed6 in the size mentioned. 215/45/18 is stock tire size, but they look puny and weak. So id like to powdercoat them black and put a wider tire on there.
What would be the widest tire on the stock rim?
Car is electron controlled AWD, with an electronic controlling unit on the rear diff... Would you go fatter tires, or new wheels?
Anybody with first hand experience, owner/dealer/tech?

Check some of the on line sites (like tirerrack) and find look at the spec page for the tires you are interested in.
They will list the recommended rim width for a given size
e.g.
For Z1's 18x7 = 225 as widest tire

Kumho SPT's have the same.

245/50ZR18 for the kumho's, which would work well.. but i was more referencing the AWD and any complications id possibly run into... guess ill go to the mazda boards.
-thanks.. didnt know that stuff was on tirerack.
245/50/18 would be way too tall, fitting on the wheel would be the last thing to worry about.
