A while ago I got rid of both ashtrays for storage compartments.
It suddenly occurred to me yesterday that it should be quite easy to illuminate the front compartment. There is already a small white light there that fitted into the ashtray for illumination.
It is really hard to take pictures in the dark with my small camera. Although is does look different in real life, the effect of the red light is more subtle, these shots give you an idea.

Thanks - worked out better than I thought it would. I did accidentially damage the lip of the compartment. I have another one on its way, so I will experiment with different positions for the globe using the old one.
At one stage, as I was moving the globe, the red light illuminated the MID. Not quite what I was after but I will do some experimenting.

They are BMW parts. The front compartment is about AUS$35. You just remove the ashtray and it cliclks into place. Same with the back. The rear one once in place is not easy to remove - small tabs can break. The front one just clicks in. From what I gather they are part of the non-smoking package that was an option.

Hey, your wheels look real good.. What size tire did you go with ? I thought M wheels would require some work to fit properly on a non M.
