great question.

full 5speed for me (and how i wish I could drop a 6 speed in it when cruising at 3000 in fifth everyday).

Shrike = S52 and 5speed and diff.

I have a '91 M50 non vanos in my '89. I apparently have the transmission from an M20 (didn't know that at first) and 4.10 open differential. So, yeah- my top speed is redline limited to probably about 100mph, but it really jumps off the line. Lots and lots of shifting around town, so I usually start off in 2nd and go right to 4th if i'm not in a hurry.

Finished product-

I bought a swapped car. M30B35/5-speed/3.46 LSD into '93 525iT body. Flipwils11 did the hard part. I just have to buff the paint, have a couple door dings pulled out, and take care of a couple minor niggles and I'll have a really, really nice/unique car for relatively little hassle.

I built my own racecar and decided to buy a street car that was already built how I want it ... I know how projects can creep from one discrete set of tasks into something completely different. Of course, now I want a turbo, because the 535iT is "peppy" but not fast. ... must resist.

First gear is useless. I have to emphasize that.

And I think you'll be at 3500 or so maybe higher going 100km/h about 60 mp/h.

It's not worth it to keep it in. Change it or else you'll kick yourself for not doing so.

Well the 4.10 won't work with a manual setup unless you swap the input shaft. Not recommended because if you don't get the torque spec correct on the bearing, you will fry the diff rather quickly. With a 3.23, I am at 3k rpm's doing 70.

Awesome, thanks man. The rest of the swap kit that I'm buying soon includes a dif, I was just wondering what it would be like. Damn it would be quick though...

I have had my ZF for almost a year now. I couldn't afford to do the diff at the same time, so I left the 4.10 from christmas eve, when we finished the swap until the middle of august when I could afford to get the appropriate diff.

I must say, it was great in the snow and alot of fun around town, but highways over 60 weren't really an option.

Well since everything is the same as an E34 minus the trans part, its not all that hard. It just requires a fair bit of time and lots of open space.

How about 10% more power everywhere?

OK, so it's the diff that's giving you most of that, but I also calculated that 1st gear will be 15% lower giving me more oomph off the line.

But for you finding a manual e34 sedan would be easier, and I'd probably just wait for a good manual rather than swap out a good auto.

Wanna come help with my swap? All the pain, none of the gain?

there are some great gear calculators on the web...

5th is 1:1, not an od

4.10 rear gear, and then all you need is tire height. i used 245/40/18.

65=3500
70=3800
75=4000
80=4300

Ie ridiculously high.
