I was not at fault.
Someone backed into me at a stop sign.
If it gets totaled I'm gonna buy it back and turn it into a track rat. (shop said thats at least 3 grand if it didn't hurt the rad. support or anything else)
If its not totaled the guy at the shop said he can probably get me an M3 bumper and some Bosch euro projectors out of it.

Why in the hell do people back up at stop signs, stay the hell there so everone can see how stupid you are! DDM M bumper and HIDs are in order for less than a set of Bosch headlights.

How the hell is that $3k of damage? I wouldnt say over $1500 with paint....
Maybe the west coast is cheaper.....

Thats not bad at all. My car got hit in the exact same spot. And it took the shop 2 mins to pull the panel out. (With special hand tool) And you cant even tell. In order to get to 3k you have to get all brand new OEM parts. Otherwise 3k is impossible.

hard to tell what it needs in the picture..
hood
both fenders
bumper
bumper cover
all the under panels
probably a new radiator support
new electric fan
and paint on everything

Honestly my cars been having a lot of problems lately and I think I'm going to try to push the shop to total it. Then buy this nice silver w/black interior 97 328is with 152k that is for sale locally then if i have the money left over im going to try to buy mine back fix it myself and make it into a track rat.

Yeah that isn't $3k in damage... But whatever, take all you can get ;) And I'd get an OEM bumper cover personally... I have an aftermarket one (I forget the company, based out of Washington and out of business & banned now) and it fits great, but the quality doesn't come close to matching that of my OEM M3 bumper.

Dude remove the plastic piece that goes on top of the nose panel. See if the fan is damaged. If nothing is damaged then all you need is a new nose panel. Check your radiator support and see if it's bent. If you can post up some pics that would be great. Because honestly it is prob. gonna cost you less than $500. And if you really going to get 3k then you can spend the 2.5k on something else ;)

Pop your hood and take some pic!

Hood wont open. Im not about to mess with anything I'll just let the shop look at it with the insurance adjuster standing there but the fenders are both pushed out where they are connected to the nose panel and the hood is bent pretty bad in the middle. it really is hard to tell by the pictures i posted but there isn't a strait body panel on the front end right now.. dude hit me pretty hard in his sierra 2500.:(

That sucks...

No way that's $3k of damage though. You saw my thread, all the body work, engine work and the full respray was that much. All new OEM parts too, except for the bumper. It'll definately be more than $500 like someone else said, I think the hood and fenders alone will cost you at least that much, but everything else is pretty easy.

Good luck either way, and if you decide to make it a track rat lemme know and I'll come help turn some wrenches :)

haha will do. BTW, those tire are so awesome! I forgot how good it feels to have the rear end stick in a corner.

Either way, this actually worked out good for me. I wanted a new hood and paint on the entire front end anyway so I'm really not mad. At least this way I don't have to pay for it!
Only down side is timing. I won't be able to drive my bimmer to 4ngie fest. I'll be in a rental. The car will be in the shop tomorrow, so wish me luck guys.

From first glance, considering the pieces no one sees on the outside, if done right, that could easily be at least $3k or right around there. Going through same thing right now with 98 M3/4 and I am at $5k initial estimate - granted my crash was probably 10-15 at impact.

Yeah, everyone keeps telling me "there's no way thats 3k." Hate to say it guys, I used to work for a body shop.. thats EASILY a few thousand in damage.. ALL new panels + labor + paint = lots of money. Not to mention since it's his insurance coving the cost I took it to one of the most reputable shops around. It's a shop that I know does amazing work and uses only top of the line paint. I told his insurance company that it broke the fan and is at risk of overheating so its not drivable. So they don't have much of a choice but to get it fixed there. Sure it could be fixed much cheaper somewhere else, but this car is my pride and joy and I'm just not gonna settle for anything but the best. They'll either pay to fix it RIGHT or they'll buy me a new car. I'm not gonna take it to some half ass shop that wont even take the time to line everything up right and have the cheap paint they use starting to flake off in about 6 months..

They have these cool trucks. They lower this ramp thingy down to the ground, then winch your car up onto the ramp. Then they raise the ramp up so it sits on the back of their truck. Then, they can drive your car around to wherever they want to take it, all without starting your engine. They call them rollbacks or tow trucks.:alright

It all depends on what insurance company you are dealing with. Some will just cut a check with just a estimate. Others will send out their own adjuster to determine the fair value of the damage, based on prevailing rates in the area. That being said, I could easily see that being $3000 in damage. Body work is expensive.

lol smart ass.. But, when you're right, you're right. Yeah they're going about it the hard way. my car is sitting at the shop and they said the claims adjuster wont be out till around thursday to look at my vehicle.:mad They also will not supply me with a rental until my car is even looked at.. So I'm without a vehicle of any sort until then.

That could easily be $3k with damage to both fenders. An oem hood alone is mid $900 for the unpainted part. Of course the adjuster will try and quote it out with a $400 aftermarket hood. Since you used to work in a body shop you know how that works. Just insist on oem replacements since that was what was on there. Then when you get the $ work with the shop on whether oem, aftermarket or salvage gets actually used.

I don't think I would want to deal with an insurance company that left me walking for several days while they took their time :mad

Allstate. Hope you never get hit by someone insured with them. My friends mom works for State Farm and she's going to help me make sure I get what's fair for my car cause she said Allstate likes to fight claims and say the damage is far less than what it really is, forcing the person who got hit to get half ass repairs.

it can easily be $3k. I just got into an accident recently on my 97 328i. needed new bumper, fog lights, grill, rad, both fans and some other stuff. they billed my insurance about $4500. the shops know how to get their money.

I was hoping it wud get totaled also, so i can buy it back and have my frend fix it for me for about 1500 and pocket some money. the insurance adjuster gave me a bullshit estimate of $900 and said if i wanted the money, they can only give me 900... so i cussed geico out and they said take it anywhere and theyll fix it, so i took it to the most expensive place i can find lol. but surprisingly they put in all brand new parts from bmw. i was kinda surprised, even the bumper was brand new

Do you have another vehicle you can drive while it's getting fixed? I was able to get about 500$ extra by not taking the rental.

OEM hood is not $900. I just signed for one through the dealer $485. :shifty

my dad backed into me in my driveway. fixed my car for 100 bucks max...dude...i'm sorry...saying thats 3k worth of damage is moronic...i don't care how many body shops you've worked for. since you're wanting it totaled anyway go ahead and push for it...but if you were on here whining about how your car is gonna get totaled b/c thats 3k worth of damage, i'd charge you 1500 and come out and fix it for you and pocket a grand ;)
