what do you guys think these would look like in silver on an e34? Too bad I'd need rings and spacers. But I might be able to get them for uber cheap.

I don't think I am alone when I say that chrome wheels do not belong on a BMW under any circumstances.

he said in silver, I imagine you mean removing the chrome coating and powder coating them?
also, I am admittedly not a wheel whore, but I feel as though these are very similar to m-pars

Chrome is a PITA to remove

but if you're willing to take the challenge, I say go for it

not to be disagreeable, but I completely disagree :rolleyes I brought mine to the local powder coating place
they dipped it in some kind of solution, applied electricity to the wheel, and the chrome plating fell right off

any idiot can drop the wheels off somewhere and pay someone else to do the refinishing for them

since I know tony is a DIY type of guy whos moddin' on a budget (like me) I'm pretty sure he'll tackle this himself.

if his offer pulls through

I've got 16" Mille Miglia's on my car....they're kind of similar. Emotion II's, I think they are. I like them. They were a little better on my E28. Nicely made, but a bit heavy. I'm still trying to score some forged 16"s of some sort....

Definitely NOT ok in chrome, though.

When it comes to hours of scraping/grinding chrome off, I think I'd prefer to just let someone else with the tools/facilities to do it properly take care of it. Especially at $25/wheel.

Maybe that's just me...

I completely agree.
I've spent greater than 5 hours, and more thn $40 worth of aircraft stripper to strip my last set of wheels.

My previous set it took me more that 10 hours...and I never completely stripped them.

Of course this was with mounted tires, so I didn't have to pay for mounting balancing...and I enjoy working on stuff....but definitely not easy, quick, or saving boatloads of $$ to do it yourself, especially if the wheels don't have tires on them.

Those I'd just rough grit sand, and respray.
But I wouldn't buy those for $100

If it takes 10 hours and $40 worth of materials to do the job, you really have to factor in how much $ you could earn working those 10 hours (unless you're unemployed, I guess). Personally, I'm not wasting 10 hours of my time just to save $60. Not worth it at all. And if you're not employed, it shouldn't be very high on your list of priorities in the first place...

mille miglia, even the rims that look "ok", are very cheap, very soft, and bend easily.

I'd save up for something nicer.

huh? That would only make sense if I was paid by the hour, and had the 'opportunity' (and will) to work at the times I was stripping those wheels.

It wasn't about saving money - It was about wasting a perfectly good saturday inside huffing paint and cussing at inanimate objects.

Also, thanks for giving me ideas on how to prioritize my life. I can feel it all turning around now..

whoa whoa, calm down now, he was just explaining his own (and my) justification for paying the $100 in lieu of the 10 hours and $40/supplies.

This went downhill quickly. But wait, wasn't janders agreeing with you guys?

And don't like the wheels.
And I agree on outsourcing certain things. Some thing just aren't worth the pure rage to me, like bleeding brakes or getting up my leaves.

lol...I'm just being playful and catty..

I mentioned above that I did it for fun, not for the economics of it, although it is money I didn't spend. I also probably increased my chance of skin cancer and lung cancer by 3000%.

I love the smell of methylene chloride in the mornings.

:eyecrazy

I called wheel shops around my area for chrome stripping and the cheapest I got was 100/wheel

25/wheel would've made me change my whole opinion

I guess I should've looked harder

ok then, carry on

well would the chrome come off with a sandblaster? I have full access. And really I just wanted to know if these would look good in silver on an e34. I kind of like the look, but If I can find a better deal on OEM I am all in. But sadly, I can't so wtf?

Sam Son
03-25-2009, 08:23 PM
i think they would look pretty crappy even without the chrome. I'd say keep what you have until you come across something better. keep lookin in the wheels FS section

well I do like the stock 15's But pretty soon here I am getting my bushings and alignment done, and unless I get wheels before then I'll be getting tires for the stockers and keeping them. Since I am getting rid of all my RD stuff I don't have anything unique on my car anymore except the wing, so I want some wheels :D

martyanderson10
03-25-2009, 08:49 PM
The stock basket weaves look 1000% better than the $100 wheels. You asked for opinions and mine is I would not put those on my car painted or chrome if they were free. They are FUGLY!
