Is this unusual -- given that we have driven the car very gently, with no rough cornering or acceleration, and kept the tires properly inflated?

Dunlops

Front 235/50R18

Rear 255/45R18

Tread is down to the wear marks, actually just not quite down to the wear marks.

This is uniform from inner to outer part of the tread.

It is true for both front and rear tires, I realize now that I have checked carefully.

not unusual at all...as a matter of fact you got much more life out of the tires than I would expect on a 45 series 18" summer performance tire.

The tire is not geared for longevity, it's geared to perform in dry weather...and pretty much that's it...so if you got 31k on a set of performance tires that you can't rotate, then you did very very well.

YES!!! It's very unusal!! Most people only get 20,000 miles out of those tires!!!!! :eyecrazy

I see mostly good reviews on the Pzeros online.

I'm not interested in high-performance cornering.

My care-abouts are:

1
Longevity

2
Reasonably comfortable but firm ride

3
Price.

You probably will want to avoid the max performance summer category because those will give you the shortest amount of tread life.

I would definitely stay with the same tire if you want the same type longevity...most of what you'll find in those sizes aren't going to last very long at all...so if you have a tire that has doubled the intended mileage then I'd stay with that tire. I know you say that you are not interested in high performance cornering, but that's the nature of the beast when you are dealing with the tire sizes that you have.

Pretty much everything you'll find in those sizes are going to be ultra high performance.

As an advisor at a BMW dealer, I can tell you 30,000 miles is great out of those tires. Chances are you have the sport package since you have the 18" wheels which means tires will wear faster that non sport package cars.
