View Full Version : Power steering hoses leaking - what's a reasonable price for repair?

I recently bought a '98 328is and the PPI revealed that the power steering hoses were leaking - not a full on gush, but something that needed to be repaired sooner rather than later. The indy BMW shop that did the PPI estimated about $400 to do the repair, but I wondered what others considered to be a reasonable price for this sort of thing. Yes, I know I could probably DIY this, but I'm not much of a DIYer and don't really have the time to get up to speed on this before I'd like to get it fixed.

All three hoses appear to be leaking.

hoses should be $20-30 each so if you DIY you will save around $350 also try autohausaz.com it should be cheaper then pelicanparts.com

3 Hoses? there should be only two coming out of the reservuor and its really easy to replace.
I'm certainly no expert, but I thought there were two out of the reservoir and one from the pump to the steering rack? That last one seems to be the pricey one at $200 (!) from pelicanparts.com for 'Genuine BMW' or $85 for a Codan hose.

parts should be less than $30 including clamps and fluid. I didn't change the trombone hose, but the others were simple. There is some time labor involved because you have to remove the air box, and put it up on stands. $100 is a deal if you don't want to fool with it....
If your leak is coming from the rack, you are screwed.
