Buying a 2nd 540i.....good deal? or not?

Hey all, I'm looking at retiring my old Camry for a '99 540i (6 speed) Black ext/tan interior. It has 153K miles on it and he wants $6K for it.

here's whats wrong with the car....

-minor dent on hood
-weather stripping on front windshield completely gone
-interior is worn out
-sunroof doesnt always close...(apparantly the piece at the front of the sunroof gets in the way and prevents it from closing all the way)
-Power Steering hose leaks up at the top (seems like a common prob)
-brake lights bad (hopefully just the bulb)
-check coolant light came on while text driving

Yall know the good stuff already.....
-fun to shift thru the gears
-powerful
-great handling
-looks good

so give me your opinion, good deal or not?

just my opinion, but that sounds high for the mileage AND the economy... BUT, thats just me thinking. Try to estimate the repairs...inspect the cooling system!

If you can, take it to a BMW indy shop or a dealer for a prepurchase inspection. Off the cuff some things that may need servicing include the entire cooling system, front thrust arms and valve cover gaskets.

Thanks, the valve cover gasket was just replaced, so i asked him if i could check it....he said cool. but you should of seen the look on the dealers face when i took the plastic cover off the valve covers :eek:
No more leaks and the gasket was brand new....i'll prolly check the torque on monday when i take it to the mechanic:)
although, the engine IS pretty dirty cuz of the valve cover gasket, so i definately want to see it on a lift

You're thinking of buying a second 540? Good god, that's like taking on a second wife. . . Sounds pretty good in the first instant, but then you think about it, and. . . . . Eeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

$4K would be more like it if you want my opinion. We love our BMW's but after all it is just a car and with 153K miles w/o knowing the person it is a complete crap shoot.
