I was looking for a new 5 series, like a 06 530i and i stumbled on this

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/1046028923.html

I would only buy it i guy would take 10k which i think is fair since the car has 116k and might need ton of basic maintence ( valve cover gasket, suspension ) to get it back in the M5 shape. Are these cars by any chance become a nightmare with 100k+ miles ?

He was listing it at 18k originally and came down a bit so i dont think its a scam it looks like its local, however, the plates are recent so he might not had the car more then about a year i would say.

I will take it for a spin on the weekend i just have a feeling that the car is going to be in horrible shape and the last thing i need are problems with m5, even though it would be my sunday driver.

well take it and get a PPI from a good mechanic. if its in good shape, id pick it up if i was you. someone on m5board is selling a 2000 with 160k or something for 17500. so this is a great deal if its real.

M5 prices aren't all that high anymore especially for ones with miles. I just ran a search earlier today and found 24 within 500 miles of where I live for under $20,000. The mileages ranged from 72,000 up to an '00 with 195k for $14k (there is also a '01 with 151k for $15).

dewd, "sitting on 20's"???? i'd walk and find another. for 3K-4K more you can find better example that has had all the work done.

To walk away from a car based on the wheels it has is stupid... Go check it out. All checking it out cost is time... And the seller CLEARLY states that the original wheels are avail also. $13k is a good price if the car is in good shape, plain and simple. And a PPI is def a good idea.

option 1: Walk away and spend 3-4k more because it has 20 inch wheels......???????

Option 2: Check it out, find a gem(Maybe), and sell the 20's for some extra cash (Kinda like a mail in rebate)............

I personally think the only smart choice is option 2.... JMHO

"The cheapest BMW is the most expensive BMW."

Repeat that 5 times. Also, any asshole that puts 20" chrome rims on his M5 probably can't afford to maintain it properly. You're likely buying someone else's problems.

Will most likely look at the car tomorrow. On the phone the guy is willing to sell it for $9500.00 pending condition of the veh..

Q: How trashed must it be if he is willing to give it away ?
