View Full Version : Rotors warped again

About a year ago I put on new brakes: Brembo Blanks and Ceramic pads, all four corners. I went out for three track days, and drove about 10,000km with no problems. Then went out to a 4th day at the track and my front rotors warped (noticed on the way home). When I checked them they still had a lot of material so I had them turned. They were smooth for about 5000km then they warped again (no track days, its winter).

They still have lots of thickness, although I don't think I 'll have them turned again. But before I put fresh rotors on is there anything else that could be causing them to warp. I am always very sure to torque all the wheels evenly.

Could I have a sticky caliper? other possible problems?

Thanks

Clayton

Driving really hard, then just parking it often?

The first time that may have been the case, but I always take a cool down lap, same as the three previous track outings. But that wouldn't explain the second incident, it was late fall when it happened...just regular every day driving.

Well you torque your wheels, a good thing. A sticky caliper will show up by looking at your pads, do they wear the same? Only thing left is HOW you apply your brakes: Do you start lightly pressing the pedel 100-150 meters before you get to a light? Do you wait till you are right on the light then stand on the brakes? Probably more to do with your driving style.

Generally I brake pretty lightly, but there are always those cases when you have to get on the brakes.

I'll take a look at the pads, when I get a chance

Uneven pad deposits! Not warped rotors!

how would you get rid of bad pad deposits?

^^^ Great info in that article. I have heard that by heating up the rotors and working them hard (i.e. brake hard) you can "clean up" the rotors and get a nice new even deposit of pad material on the braking surface. I have never tried it but it might be worth a shot.

When I bedded in my new brakes, I did 10 50-10 mph stops with 'medium' pedal pressure and the only thing I feel from them is the braking force. No wobble, judder or pulse. Granted I don't drive it like I stole it either. Just my $.02

I had bedded them in, although I didn't do ten 60-5mph breaks, as soon as the roads thaw a bit and there is enough grip for a good brake I'll try the bedding process again and see if it helps

maybe the calipers arent aligned properly in proportion to the rotor causing one side to hit/push the disc before the other or under light braking?
