What's fair price on a Canadian 1997 528i with close to 250k km?

about a dollar
if Canadian, about 75 or so cents.

J/K

Depends more on the condition/maintenance history of the car than the mileage.

Soo, what's the history like?

don't know the service history. But leased for 4 years, then 2 subsequent owners, the last from 2003 until now.

well, it's almost impossible to give u a price to tell u the truth.

id say around $2000-3000 would be okay

unless of course it was super maintained, in which case id probably go as high as 6000

All receipts is good. Bad is the fact he thinks it's a V6. If you do want to go for it, get a prepurchase inspection. He's asking 540I money though.

Not sure where you've seen many 540s with that sort of price in Ontario. Plus it's a best offer, so $5.5-6k will probably take it, which is reasonable if it's as described and the provided receipts show that no maintenance was deferred.

What's fair price on a Canadian 1997 528i with close to 250k km?

Canadian Black book value shows up as

Low: $3,580.00 High: $5,005.00

What that means is if its well maintained its up 5k worth... if its badly maintained then its about 3500 worth.

Also note i could not go back in black book calculator to 1997 so this is for the 1999 model of e39 528i with 250k.

I would not pay more than 4500-5000 MAX if its in good condition if its not then id pay lower.

Basically you are buying a car that if you have to do thrust arm bushings and cooling system that would run you about 1200-1600cdn for thrust and similar or more for cooling...

I'm not sure if it's the same one... but is this one in Ottawa? If so, it has rust. and i would keep looking, there are alot of good deals.

No the one in Toronro, green one. But It does nothing for me to be honest after reflection.

I don't like the colour, the mileageor the fact that according to another email I got, the interior is a bit tatyy as well, the year etc etc

My offer was going to be $4k tops, after that not worth the hassle

What I really want is:

Dark Blue 2001 - 2002 540i
M Sport Package
6 Speed
less than 120,000 km
Nav package
All service receipts
Carproof verified
Willing to pay with tax $12,500

I think in this economy, if I wait and place an order with a used dealer, I might get what I want. I can't imagine prices staying up with the way things are going.

Trader.ca, select BMW 540I, and search all of Ontario. That's a realistic price nowadays, especially with the mileage.

It will be a long time until prices get that low. Right now something like that will be 20K+. Probably closer to 25K.

Wait for what you really want!

100%.

Though from your list its doable at the same time nav package on the 540 would be almost next to a rare item.

Be open to maybe other colours as well as you can find a perfect car on all you want but maybe not the colour?

Dont rush into it and wait the next few months is when all the action is going to happen... also take into account buying from a dealer vs private I HIGHLY recommend private as you save gst and also you can see the owner and get a feel of the history of the car...

If you do go the dealer route do not buy it unless you get it checked by an indy shop... and don't bother with their warranty.

Thx, Nav I'll drop

Colour, I'll think about ;)

As you can see from the link I sent, aside from being probably $2000 above my price point, there is a car with everythig but the colur available now.

I still feel that the prices will fall further i the next few months.

On M5 Board there is a guy from caledonia selling his 03 M5 with 200,000 km with hood chips and such for about $13,900. If i had that kind of money i would pick it up. And nav package is rare in canada, but the rest is doable for $12,900

the collection used car dealer in toronto are crooks, most if not all there cars are insurance write offs repaired or are bought damaged through the auction with clean title then they fix them and sell them, i would stay as far away as possible from them. And if you want to know how i know its cause my body guy does most of their cars

i dont know what he did work on recently but i can tell you there are simple ways to get buy the system. Car proof is the best system but it too has flaws. A body shop must enter the work on its system so car proof can get it, but when paid for in cash that never gets entered. Cash is king in the bodyshop world, im just trying to give you a heads up to avoid them also they do alot of same day repairs on these cars. A quick touch up of the pillars, look closely if you do go to look at the car, and if they will allow you put it up on there hoist if they dont allow you walk away

I'll only ever buy a car if I can take it to an indeoendat garage for an inspoection. Bavarian MOtors in Markham would be my choice.

If they say no, I walk

you should. 500 dollar to frieght it still better than paying thousands more... When i was selling my old car someone from alberta bought it.
