Anyone ever weld a BMW diff open. I have read threads about welding the spider gears in 4X4 diffs. The same principle? Any experiences/thoughts?

I am looking to make decent times with my setup. My 4.27 with a 5 speed should make good short times as long as both wheels are turning.

My welds are coming in the post to be run with my Hoosier 3035 27x10's

Welding of spiders is an not recomended by any sanctioning group and is against the rules. It is also dangerous. buy a spool or get a posi that is 40%locked. done deal. ///J.T.///

I had a quaife diff in my M with a 40% lock up! Never had a problem. That's all I can add since I didn't put it in and I never had it out. LOL ///J.T.///

if it is only for test and tune with relatively low power, welding up spider gears is ok, but unless done properly, with steel plates welded in to tie it all together, it won't last long, this one is my sons E21 paddock basher diff I welded for him when he was 12
