Looking for a Z4 or 328i for the wife. Can any of you offer advice on how to go about making a deal for a car 500 miles away? Car inspection? Is it common for a local dealer to buy it & re-sell it to me? Help !

It is common for a stealership to move the car for you, but you will pay!! Just make the deal yourself. Contact a mechanic in the car's area, pay for the inspection. Satisfied? then buy it. if not, don't. Don't pay a second party!!! The mechanic will be able to tell you what inspections you need and if he can't he isn't reputable because google is a wonderful tool. Tell him your state specs if you need to. I have purchased Many cars on ebay this way and have had no problems. just use your head and be Anal.

I live in NJ and bought my car in Delaware (about 160miles away). I drove down and traded in my car and drove back in the 335. They did not charge me tax but I had to pay the tax when I went to register.
If you go through a BMW dealership, I would imagine they should do all this for you.

I bought my car in NJ, and live in VA...it was kind of hard to negotiate, because the sales d-bag knew I really wanted the car and knew I wouldnt just "walk away" and go back home. But I still got my car for an excellent deal when I purchased it last October. My dealer calculated my tax based on what it would have been in VA...that was done properly. One other major problem I had was getting my plates. The dealership in NJ didnt really have any idea how to do it, and kept telling me that "they are working on it"....I had to call them about 15 times and speak with the manager of the dealership and blow up his spot...Not to mention I got pulled over 3 times in a month for the shit*y temp tags NJ assigns...All in all though, the prices/deals in NJ were astronomically better than those in the DC/MD/VA area, so it was well worth all of the hassel to save myself close to $5K on a similar car bought in my area.

I'm looking out of state now. My concern is local BMW service dept. being reluctant to service a vehicle not sold at their dealership.
And I am talking CPO.
Happened to me with a VW service dept. years ago.
An experiences like this for anyone?

Dealers should never have issues with CPO cars, if they do they are terrible....warranty is warranty.

All dealerships should honor the manufacturer warranty. They get paid by BMW for doing the work, so why would they refuse....that would be just stupid...

I bought my 335xi used with about 7500 miles on it in Delaware. They did not give me CPO because they said it was too new. Anyway my dealer in NJ never gave me any issues about it.
