I have a 91 535im and I am replacing the diff. I'm new to E34's but not BMW's and I am wondering if anyone knows from what models can I get a diff from?
Also, I am going to take the diff out tomorrow, but if anyone knows off the top of their head what ratio diff is in my car, I would appreciate it so I can start looking for a replacement now.

I have a 3.91 LSD I am selling for cheap out of a '90 535iM, not a stock ratio but it does fine. Pretty fun on the low end too. There will be a big discussion bout whether 3.91 is too short or not... lol
To answer your question, I am pretty sure your car will take any medium-case diff. (all E34's except M5 and maybe 540i, IIRC)

heh, yeah I'm looking for the stock gearing cause I want to try and keep the rpms lower. I believe it is 3.46lsd? But I will know for sure tomorrow when I look at the tag on it. BTW, how much you looking to get for the diff so I have an idea of what they go for? Is it an lsd?

Pretty sure stock gearing is the 3.46.
Yeah, mine is a limited-slip. I am only asking $175 + S&H, but good luck finding a 3.46 for that price. You are probably looking at something like $300-500.

Do you have any idea of what the rpm's are like in 5th gear on the highway? I'm sure its not too much worse than the stock gearing. If you want to send me a pm instead of talking through the thread, feel free to. I am actually interested in your diff, I just wanna call these 3 local bmw shops I know tomorrow and see if they might happen to have one around.

Yeah, your car should have a 3.46. It can be either an lsd or an open depending on what the original buyer wanted.

I got a S3.64 going in this Saturday. I'd sell you my S3.46 but I think its spoken for already. I'll let you know if the sale falls through.

I'm not sure, but I believe all e34 diffs are interchangeable?
Mine's off an M5 i think

I have a 3.46 open with a dead input bearing... don't know if you could use the internals from that...

I have a 3.91 lsd and a 4.27 lsd for sale but these are for automatics unless you want to increase your take off speed. I am sure a 535M with a 4.27 would be fun until its time to change the clutch from the burn outs.

I have a 3.46 limited slip from my '91 535/5 parts car, but I would need good money for it (planned to put it in another car). PM me if you want to discuss...

I think the best diff for the 535iM is the 3.73 lsd, a little extra at the bottom really keeps it on cam, also had one of these in my 635csi Euro.

So today I contacted the previous owner and he told me that the diff that just went out was a used diff that he bought from diffs online 3 years ago and it is a 3.64lsd.
If anyone has any Lsd diffs for sale, please let me know. Im looking for either a 3.46 3.64 3.91 or anything in between that will work.

Since, I found out that the diff in my car is a 3.64 lsd, How much would it cost in parts to rebuilt the diff and where can I get the parts?
Would I be better off just rebuilding it myself since I am taking it out myself or paying someone to do it?

Call Diffsonline and ask them how much they want to rebuild it. They're good guys, they may give you a break since it's one of their units.
