Mirrors auto unfold

Hello all,

I've owned my 06 330i w/ iDrive for a few weeks now. When I first brought it home and was playing around with the car, I had the mirrors folded, car locked. I unlocked the car with the remote and the mirrors unfolded.

This has only happened once and I cannot figure out how to make it happen again. I read that there is not a way to get them to fold/unfold automatically.

So was this just a strange software glitch or is there a way to make them unfold when unlocking the car? And for that matter, just to confirm, is there a way to make them automatically fold when locking the car?

The only time my mirrors auto unfold is when I start driving with them folded and hit 25mph, your mirrors at that point will auto unfold.

funny thing is, the same exact thing happened to me! i have had my 330xi for a few weeks and when i came out of the mall one day the mirrors were folded and when i unlocked the door, they automatically opened. i called my sales rep to see how i could make it happen again, and he said it couldnt be done.

well, two days ago, i figured it out by accident...

i have comfort access and i put my finger on the handle to lock the door, but i held it for a little longer than normal, by accident, and out of nowhere the mirrors started to fold!!!

i tried using the lock button on the remote to see if it would work the same, but it didnt. it only worked when i kept my finger on the handle for an extended period.

not sure if you have comfort access or not, but this was what worked for me!

OK, I finally figured this out... knew I wasn't crazy.

I got out of my car yesterday and noticed my sunroof was open. So I inserted the key into the door and closed her up, the mirrors at that point folded in. I then realized I needed something out of my backseat, but I just locked the car with the key, so I pressed the unlock button on the remote and presto! The mirrors unfolded.

So, if you fold the mirrors using the key in the door, when you unlock the car using the remote, they will unfold. I tried this a few times after and confirmed it.

This may only work on a 06 e90.

I had an 06 330xi. There was a button by the mirror adjust controls that I could push to fold the mirrors. Then, I had to also push the button again to unfold them. Nothing automatic. I remember driving in DC and forgot they were folded, tried to look at the driver-side mirror and it was folded. I freaked. DC city driving is no joke. I had to quickly unfold them before I got killed. Personally, I feel they should unfold when you turn the car on. Funny that in the 09s they cut the DVD player when you put it in drive, but keep the mirrors folded. lol Gotta love that German engineering.

The mirrors will fold out automatically but you have to be going over 15-20 mph.

This post was to discuss how they mysteriously unfolded when unlocking using the keyfob. That mystery has been solved.
