Got my 2007 335i yesterday. I was driving around town, shifted into second, gave it some gas, and then something happened. I stopped and it idled very roughly and the engine light was on (picture of engine half shaded in?). I turned it off and back on again and now it seems fine though having only owned it for a few hours I don't know if it is back to normal. It is certified and the dealer I bought it from said they would cover anything of for some reason the warranty did not. What might this be? O2 sensor, fuel pump? It's got 15k miles and is a manual.

I'm not to worried about it condidering the warranty but this is still lame that it happened the first day I got it. What's the point of the certification if the car breaks the first day I own it...

Sounds like the problems I was having when my fuel pump went out. Guess it could be a problem on the 07's. Did you ask to see if that had already been replaced?

It could be fuel pump it could be trace amount of water in the gasoline.

If it is CPO then take it back to a dealer. They can hook up a computer and read the code to find out what issue caused the CEL light to turn on.

By the way, I heard that there is a limited exchange warranty on CPOs. (i.e. buy the car, and return it the 2nd day if you don't like it). You might pursuit that option if it is applicable to you.

CPO or not the car is covered under the factory warranty for 4 yrs or 50,000 miles on every car. The CPO warranty (6yr or 100,000) kicks in after that, requires a co-pay, and covers less. Paint and trim panels for example.

No limited exchange warranty unless your state allows it.

Does that mean you can exchange the car if it is < 3 days old (CPO)?

This Assurance applies to Canada only as might be expected if you got it from their Canadian site and does not apply to the U.S.

Hm. I thought BMW USA have similar policy. I guess there are more reasons to buy canadaian :D

But again, after hearing what people do to their BMWs during their lease it will be very unlikely I buy a CPO vehicle from US. It's just not worth the risk.

I'd put my money on it being the high pressure fuel pump. Let us know what happens.

I had my fuel pump go and NO lights came on and there was no warning when you brought up the CHECK or SERVICE. But they still said it was recorded.

Ask about the pump...they seem to go at about the 12-20,000 mile range.

It could be the HPP. The same symptoms happened when a fuel injector was plugged. Take it in for service and let us know what they say.
