Hey yall, I just picked up my first BMW 2 weeks ago tomorrow. It's a 2009 328i (I don't know the code word for it...E something). Well, I am noticing that when I really lay into the pedal it doesn't really go anywhere and begins to lurch over and over. Kinda like an acceleration sputter. I don't really know how to describe it, but it feels like there is something really wrong.
I am headed to the dealer on Tuesday for some other issues (SOS, bluetooth don't work and he plastic shroud on the passenger rear view mirror has melted somehow). So I am going to have them look at the acceleration issue too. Could it be a fouled up traction control system?
Thanks for any help and advice...

No one has any suggestions?
Well, now it is idling kinda rough on start up and seems to be louder than it should be (engine noise). I have an appt. with the dealer on Tuesday, but any help in web-diagnosis that could help me talk to the tech would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Maybe bad gas??

Could it be a fouled up traction control system?
Sounds like it. Try turning off the system by holding down the traction control button for several seconds.

What the heck does that do?

Well, I tried the traction control turn off...no dice.
I took it to the dealership and it's still there 3 days later. They are having issues trying to figure out what is wrong. They are thinking it's electrical.
Not fun to have a brand new car (less than 2 weeks old) that's not working.

Hopefully, the service center will get your 328 sorted out. Some 335's (mine included) do kind of lurch when accelerating from a standing start. Some felt this was an early indicator of a high pressure pump (HPP) failure for the twin turbo 6 in the 335. Ours did fail and was replaced. However, the car jumps or lurches still when you take off (from time to time). Honestly, I chalk it up to a characteristic of the vehicle.
Hang in there on your 328. Our HPP failed three months into our vehicle ownership. It took 2 months to get the new pump ... :) Just work with your dealer and service center. They will get things sorted out.

My 2008 328i (automatic) is doing the same thing while in first gear. If I push the petal it kinda just starts off real slow and then if I push it harder, it'll lurch and get going fine once it's up in a higher gear. It's a little frustrating to say the least - I wish I'd noticed it when I purchased the car. But at least this should be covered by the warranty. Sports mode is fine for the most part (though it too can be jumpy when slowing down), but driving normally in D especially gets annoying every time I have to come to a complete or near stop (like in traffic).
I'd be curious to hear if you had the problem diagnosed and what it was. I am probably going to take mine in next week sometime. I have no idea why, but they don't offer loaners at our local dealership, just a shuttle service, so I guess I'll be back to driving my other car for a few days.

Hm. I always have a feeling that the car starts off in 2nd gear instead of the first. That might explain the short delay in acceleration.

OK, I thought this suggestion (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13710991&postcount=22) posted here on this forum was a joke when I first read it, but I also saw other folks had tried it on their E90's from other years. I just went out and tried it, and unless I'm imagining things, the car did in fact accelerate smoother than before without the lurching. So maybe that actually resets something after all. I'll know for sure when I head home today. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Worth a shot though - especially for anyone driving a car as a second owner. I have no idea how the guy/gal before me drove the car. So if I can reset stuff that easy, I'm happy it it fixes stuff.

I am having the same problem. Going to give this a shot. Thanks

Another reason to buy an MT. Although I just had a 328 loaner and I could barely drive it and it was MT. Maybe the power delivery of the engine has something to do with it.
BUT, I did just read about some "device" in European Car magazine that says it address throttle by wire lag.
Could be nothing more than tricking your low end throttle to be in sport mode...who knows.
But here's the link

I wish now I'd spent more time learning how to drive MT when I was younger - I guess I've stuck with AT since it's familiar. I do think since I reset the system it's been smoother overall, especially between higher gears. But it's still a bit jumpy/lurchy in stop and go traffic here in town. I'll mention it to the dealer when I go in for my oil change in a few weeks.
Eventually I'll likely try and trade up to a 330i - I suspect I'll enjoy the change.

I have almost the same problem as well, and I thought I was the only one. I just purchased my '06 325i, and it feels like when I start to accelerate from a complete stop it doesn't really go anywhere then once it hits 1500 rpms, which it jumps into 2nd gear and quickly lurches forward. I was kinda pissed after I drove it home from the dealership, because the stop and go ride was almost getting my car sick, and I was the one driving! After 2nd gear it shifts really smoothly.
I brought it back to the dealership and they checked it out and said it is works fine, although they might have just been blowing me off. I thought maybe it was just me having to adjust to driving the car because my last car (Jag xkr V8 supercharged) had tons of low end torque and this car doesn't. I also noticed that with my sportronic automatic transmission if I just started it in 2nd gear, the car felt normal.
So how did you solve this, or how do I solve this? I will try the reseting steps in the post above. Should I bring it back to the dealership, and if so, what can I say so that they might actually take me serious and really look into it?
Thx
