The owner I purchased my e36 m3 from didnt know the full specifications on what the original owner had done to the car. Right now it has 19" hamann HM2 installed and im considering moving down to a 18". I have no current problem with rubbing so im just curious.
So my questions are.
1. The 19" Hm2s only came in a 19x8.5 right?
2. If thats true I should have no problem with an 18x8.5 rubbing?
This is what It looks like currently

The 18X8.5 will fit fine on the car as long as the offset is correct.
If I can help let me know.

I do know nothing about how the offset works, so is it just dependent on the wheel size what offset i need, or does it depend on the tire?

The offset is dependent on the car there are going on and the size of the wheels. For the 3 Series you want to be right around a 40mm offset.

i believe hm2 in 18 and 19 both have an offset of 43 if i'm not mistaken
they both are the same size, offset wise
the car may go a little lower with the 18's (depending on the tire)

I have a similar question actually..
i am looking to upgrade to 18 or possibly 19s but am worried about rubbing. You said you never had a problem with that but what would you think about putting HM2s on a Z4?

As long as the offset and the width of the wheels are OK you will be fine. If I can help with the tires just let me know.
