Hey Fellas,
I have a 2006 BMW 325i (Winter Package) Steptronic and would like to know if I have an option to have my Doors auto locked if I am driving above 8MPH. How do I check this?
Thanks!

Your 325 is a little before the build date where it was a user changeable option in the car computer. To activate that feature you would need to pay the dealer a portion of labor to connect it to their system and turn it on.

I have a 2006 330i with iDrive and can activate it through the nav computer. Seems like a lot of little features like this can only be programed with iDrive.

True that. You can always have this done when you bring your car in for other service.

Yes, my 06 330i with I-drive I am able to autolock as well...Not sure if it is possible to do by yourself if you dont have I-drive

If you don't have I-Drive the option on the very early '06's are not available to change. I think it was 9/06 or a little later than that where they included the options in the instrument cluster computer.
If you just take your car to the dealer to turn this feature on by itself OR doing maintenance that does not include connecting to the computer system for something else, you will more than likely be charged 30 minutes of labor or there about to do it.

So it does mean that I have that option available except for I need to get it done by a dealer. Am I right? Thanks for the reply btw.....

Mine was 09/06 built....

To clarify all. A pre 9/06 car you CANNOT change the DRL or the Autolock with out going to the stealership. It sucks. After 9/06 you can change these setting (not alarm) utilizing the stalk, or the Idrive, whichever you have.
OP yours could go either way. Check Manuel and if there are directions and the car will do it, you are good to go. My manual has the instructions but the car doesn't have the ability. b/c it was one of the first off the line.

If you want to leave it overnight or longer depending on how finicky the computer/car is.

That is good news. All I wanted to know was whether or not I have that option. I will go to the dealership later on....
On a side note, I wonder why this "service advisor" from an authorized BMW Dealership (name - Bavarian Motors in Shelby, Detroit) would misguide me completely. First, he tells me that I don't have an alarm system installed - WHICH IS HORSE S*!T (I have it installed and the alarm goes off crazily) and secondly, he says there is NO WAY i could have this automatic door locking mechanism. I also had a question about my bluetooth functionality for which he said something in the same lines (some negative answer). :mad :eyecrazy :mad
I now feel like I should report this matter to his supervisors (or at least point out the mistakes he did....) Gee - I wonder how BMW hires such a crappy people. If it was not for this site, I would have never learned these new things!! Thanks a gazillion...fellas!!!

For the BT option does your 325 have BMW SOS (button up near the sunroof switch? That is a good indicator that you have BT. Another way is to put your phone in discover new connections mode and then turn the car either on or to the running position to kick all the electronics on and see if your phone picks up the connection. The car will show BMW and the last 5 of your VIN for the device name. Follow by entering a PIN of your choice and then enter on the radio to complete. I have done it a couple times but the directions are straight forward in the manual too.

No sir...mine does not have a SOS....! So I guess I don't have that BT option :rolleyes. That besides, do you know if I can connect a Garmin Nuvi GPS with bluetooth option to my bimmer's speakers? So if I want to take call I hear it thru my car's speakers?

Not sure of the Garmin setup but I do believe you can retrofit the BT module into the car. It tends to get a little pricey but the joy of having it totally integrated into the radio and nothing to take out or charge each night is worth it IMO.
My wife's 330 has it and it is totally worth it to get it installed. I do remember you can retro the E90's somewhere as many have been able to do it to E46's.
Check out the EAS (http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?cPath=67_153&products_id=2147) module that is cheaper than OEM but either way would work fine.

If you have a pre 9/06 330i (2006 model year) and you can't access the lock sets on the stalk. Will taking it to the dealer open up this option so you can program it yourself later or can only the dealer make changes?

I have an 06 330 and my doors lock automatically. I've never seen an option to change it on my stalk, but I guess it could be there? While on this subject does anyone know if you can change the door chime when you're not wearing your seat belt? (not that I ride around without my seat belt on but there are times in the neighborhood, taking the trash, getting the mail etc that it drives me crazy!

Can't be done and I agree it can get annoying. Just click it I guess is the easiest way to avoid being annoyed.
