I just bought a 1989 535i with 181000 miles and i drove around 600 miles on it first 3 days. Recently i just had an oil change, put premium gas and it ran fine even this morning. But after school i was driving normal then all of a sudden the engine started cutting out or misfiring. if i rev normally it will go to 35 and it will work fine as long as i give very light throtle and the CEL came on. Any idea what could have caused this? how do i check the CEL. thanx need help ASAP
Welcome. Any recent work on the fuel system? You need to be more specific; to "35" does not mean anything.

You can do a stomp test to see what the CEL is indicating (search for stomp test). Sounds like either coils or spark plugs that are causing the misfire and problems. Not to long ago I was driving and as I can to a stop my engine started running terrible and was misfiring. Got back to my place and pulled the coils and spark plugs and coils and everything was in good shape except two coils that where causing the misfire, and problem is fixed now.

I don't understand the sentence that includes "35". Not much of anything useful to say until you have some idea of what's malfunctioning, so search for "stomp test" to see how to read codes, then check back.

Come on guys, I'm pretty sure "35" means 35mph.
Welcome to bf.c man, be happy you bought a car with an m30. They're hammer simple. The fuel you put in really won't make much difference in an m30. Learn how to do a stomp test and how to read the codes.

That should take care of the codes. If you can, do a fuel pressure test. You should have ~45psi with the engine running. Other than that, check your plugs, wires, cap and rotor. If they check out move on to your coolant temp sensor, then VAF. Post results so we can talk you through it. Get your post count up and post pics of your car.

Alright i did the stomp test i came up with 1 blink 2 blinks +2 blinks+2blinks which i believe is the code 1222 lambda control 1. The 35 was 35mph i reset the battery the code came back but the car seems to run fine.
