I was hoping for a early March delivery date but can't even get a build week from the dealer. I'm assuming my dealer wants to sell the car are soon as possible so I'm just going to have to wait. At least it's not nice outside, that would really kill me.

Back in November and December the tracking system seemed to be reasonably accurate. But a lot happens in the "En Route" phase and the site doesn't exactly satisfy the thirst for updates during this time.

Once your vehicle is En Route call your client advisor and ask for the ship name. Google is useful to find your ship, although my ship did not update it's position over a two week period - bummer. I found better information about my ship in the Port of Charleston Vessle Report (google it along with your ship's name) in the days prior to arrival and watched the status change as it docked and unloaded. My car's status on the BMW site changed to At Preparation Center 5 very long days after the ship unloaded. I guess it takes some time to get through customs and hauled around. It was only a few days from the Prep Center to my BMW Center in Minneapolis. Not sure how the Performance Center delivery affects any of this but I assume your Space Grey rocket will come in via Charleston, too. The wait is excruciating, but worth it.

Thanks. One more question, if I have mine ordered, I do have the option of just picking it up in SC and not Germany right? The dealer told me since its shipped to NJ, I can not have it delivered to SC and pick it up down there. I thought he was bull about that.

If you ordered it you can choose to pick it up in SC. If the car has already shipped to NJ you have an issue but if it is still in Germany you should be OK.

The blue will look great, every time I see one I second guess myself. Time wise, you need to figure which week your dealer will get yours in the production schedule. They probably have some cars on order and it has a code I can't remember that means on order, not started and can be changed, (125 or 115???). The 6-8 weeks sounds typical, around Christmas it was longer due to the shut down. The wait stinks but you will end up with a car just the way you wanted.

You know, I would have never considered leatherette for a car like a BMW before this week. I had a loaner 09 335xi from the dealer and found it deos look pretty convincing, plus it should last forever. And one plus I found over the Dakota leather in my 330i is that the leatherette is "grippier".

Thanks , the order will be in the system on Monday as i placed the order on Friday evening and on Monday i will get the tracking #.

Seems like 6-8 weeks is a long way off

Since i will be leasing the car , does leases have any exit clause incase i need to break it or i am stuck to it for the period of the lease

Let me present "I don't have a name". What a great day, maybe the wait made it sweeter, I really love this car.

I liked the looks of the coupe but as a dad went with the sedan. The car was not home 1 hour and I had to pick up 4 players, my daughter included, for our local travel soccer team. 3 11 year olds fit fine in the back. My daughter was scrolling through the Ipod with no problem in 1 minute.

Don't worry too much about the dates, they are not up to date.

I would be worried about not having the right packages.

Thanks for the number, i called the 800 number and it says that the vehicle is scheduled for production on week of 04/14 , i called the salesrep and he confirmed too ... i was under impression that it goes in PROD within 7-10 days of booking the order and thats what the sales rep told me at the time of booking the order

Can you please confirm if thats how it works , i am concerned that i wont get the car in 8 weeks forget about getting in 6 weeks.

How long it took yours to get into PRODUCTION and after PROD how long it took you to receive the car

Well it kinds depends on how many orders BMW has and how up to capacity their production line is running. In the current economic situation, I would not be surprised if they had cut down on their production (eliminate some shifts, temporarily close some plants, etc). This could add delays in case more orders come in than anticipated. BMW does keep an inventory of cars (unlike other manufacturers esp. japanese) so every car order that comes in has to wait its turn unless there is a car already in production that can be modified which sometimes dealers do.

I also looks like your dealer did not have another can on order that was not started, code 150?, to swap with yours. Mine did and my car was done being mfg 2-3 weeks after ordering.

They did swap mine with a black automatic but still dont understand why it takes so long to get into PRODUCTION

It's worth the wait. Don't be like me a watch the boat cross the Atlantic and dock real time, (that picture on page one is the actual boat it came over on).

After a Lexus I'm very happy to be back in a BMW.

Slow times in a slow economy. Didn't use to be that way, you used to be able to get a production slot much faster.

I went back and looked and mine did not have all options listed correctly on the website and the car was delivered correctly.

I've been a little late in getting pictures of the car uploaded, went on vacation a couple days after getting the car.

First the driving experience, first 600 miles. I love it. This is my daily driver and I will put around 15,000 miles a year on the car. I went automatic as my wife will also drive it and she can sort of drive a stick. The ride in D mode is very smooth. In DS it is nice and sporty. Have not played much with the paddle shifters.

Pothole explosion, my son and I were in a parked lot and hit pothole filled with water go 5 mph. Wow, no damage but wow. My son thought something was broken.

My CA Hans @ Knauz (847)283-6709 was great. Knows the BMW product, understands the ordering process and help guide me in picking out the right car and options. If you are looking for a BMW in the Chicagoland area give him a call.

Pothole explosion, my son and I were in a parked lot and hit pothole filled with water go 5 mph. Wow, no damage but wow. My son thought something was broken.


Welcome to the wonderful world of run-flat tires. They are hockey pucks. Whenever I hit a ~2" pothole (where a normal tire would absorb the impact) my suspension hits full travel and grinds, and my 1-cd in-dash player (yes, I'm a dinosaur with no ipod and actually play CDs in my dash unit) skips. I have to really watch the road and avoid craters - and we get alot of them up here with our temperature swings.

It's pretty jarring every time it happens. Hit a big enough pothole and you get to replace the RFT for $300. Joy.

This is one of the only things I don't like about the E92, that there is no RFT delete option, and no spare compartment. I'm thinking about downgrading to "regular" tires and carrying a full-size regular spare in my trunk.

Not sure I care for the "xdrive" badging on the fenders... I like my "328xi" badge on my trunk. Has BMW ever had any letters/numbers etc. on the fenders? That's rather American ;)

Last week went to visit a customer in MN. Nice 500+ mile trip in the car. First time the car was outside in the cold, like the seat and steering wheel warmer. The best cruise control I have ever had in a car. Love having the dual screen nav, one zoomed in and one big picture. I didn't keep accurate gas millage but it seemed great on the highway. Didn't like the winter mats on the long drive.
