View Full Version : Denton's new taillights
This might just asplode your brainz.
Denton... king of all amber/stock/"my way or you're wrong".... has Hella smoke tails. Here's the story: He got a killer deal on a used set and didn't pass it up. Wasn't sure if he'd like it and even as he was installing it (yes he) didn't think he would. However, after we did one side I think he changed his mind. Maybe not, but you decide...

Bonus if you can spot my car.
Keep in mind he will most likely balance out the look with smoked fronts...

Anything but a white car, and it'd look good.
Still looks ok.
Denton hit me up if you want to sell those tails for a reasonable price :)

not a fan... maybe if it was slammed with some really wide wheels with solid dish.... cars just have to be very aggressive looking overall to pull those off IMO.

I voted for the smoked. Get some smoked fronts in there too. I was almost tempted to vote for the stockers, just to stay on the opposite side of Denton's style :rofl but they just look too good, especially with the filler panel.
Mac, seriously? You still have the eyebrows on? :confused

He'd be better off with the red and clear rear tails..

What? No. What are you seeing?

I really cant decide even though I'm a huge fan of smoked. The stocks look good on the white. I remember when I installed one side smoked on my car and took a pic. SO I'm on the fence.
BTW MAC, I spotted your ride up on the jack stands :)

Honestly they both look good, but give different looks. The smoked gives more of a "mean" look, the ambers are classic and work really well with the white.
And glad to see that Denton's turning a wrench or screwdriver. We'll learn him yet.
Mac, is that yours tucked off to the right? When will she be done?

I'd like to see them on both sides before making a decision.

If he does decide to keep them on shadowline is going to be necessary along with smoked fronts/headlights.

Yes, Never. Actually, as soon as I find a fender roller so we can finish up the suspension. Then I'll drive it.

Its Hella.. Of course it works!
But it needs big wheels to really set it off. But any e34 with tiny wheels looks dumb..

I say, do something totally new and cool, and use only the smoked inner trunk lights. Then you can keep your ambers and be zomg so original!
Oddly enough, I kind of want to see that look...DO IT.

Whoa! @ your sig Kess. Pics bee-atch!
I'm gonna vote amber. Your car always looked like it just rolled right off the showroom floor. Now, not so much..
One more thing..I wanna seem the smoked tails without the filler plate.

Cool pieces, I think it's borderline too aggressive for the car in it's current state.

I think the smoked look sweet, just not on denton's car. I think kesslers got the right idea.

+1 I was thinking the same exact thing.
EDIT: But on the other hand, he does have the black m5 filler plate... so the black all the way across is kinda cool.

i'd say red/clear. the smoked lights really do work better with darker colors.

I'm not against rear clears but a) I LOVE ambers and like making a bit of a statement with them and b) if I put them on I'd have to either delete a ton of old posts or make a public apology and a long speech. Maybe something similar to the Nixon resignation. Plus I'd be paying money for Hella clears instead of keeping free ambers.
I would do clear sides though.
My beef with the Hella smoked is that my car has no tint (and will never have tint under my watch). They are unquestionably gorgeous on Mac's Granite silver car.
If he does decide to keep them on shadowline is going to be necessary along with smoked fronts/headlights.
Shadowline is coming (but keeping chrome kidneys). I'm set on Shadowline regardless of tails.
I love love love smokey smileys. I still may do smoked smileys but would keep the front ambers. Would probably look a bit strange.

The newer Mercury Grand Marquis's actually have that look.

That's my beef. Love the tails but they don't fit the car.
Looks like I'll have an FS thread for the smoked Hellas.

Those are sexy tails, but they just don't fit the car the way it is modded. I think a tinted amber (6 on the tail light chart) would look sick. Just my .02.

I am a little biased towards hella smoked lights but on the white the amber it the only way to go, its just right.

With an all white car...I'm seeing Hella CLears/Reds but take the time to lightly smoke them automotive tinted clear.
Trust meeez.........they'll be sweet on that white car.!!

Smoked just doesn't look right on a white E34. Clear or Ambers look the best.

Stock ambers. I'm just not a fan of smoked lights.

Yes, but I don't see what looks like eyebrows. They're smoked headlights and the hood is open, maybe? Ehh well... no eyebrows, all is well.
Looks like I'll have an FS thread for the smoked Hellas.
Good call. Ambers look gorgeous.

I was thinking the same.....BUT the front signal come to play to cancel that thought. Those stock's w/ the crisp white just plays too well

never thought id say this but the ambers actually do look pretty good. that said i still like the smoked. I think the smoked looks really good on white(contrast)
Honestly both are good whatever you choose you cant go wrong

Clears would probably look best, but between the choice I'd say smoked.
Ambers only look good on red cars, imo.

Haha, you do know this is Mr. Amber right?
I like the stock look, with the nice color with that white. If it were a red car, I'd advocate for clear signals, but eh.
Good luck with everything, looks great. What's going on with Mac's ride in there?

Me too. I usually don't blur the plates. Mine are all over the place too, but since it's not my car I will always blur it.

Smoking the passenger's low beam wouldn't be a bad idea. If you wanted to pull off the smoked look IMO, it would need different wheels, smoked fronts and of course tints. Without tints it looks half naked :shifty

That's what I meant, and since the rears are 2 pieces per side you can do the same thing there too.
I think it would have to be, from left to right, smoked corner, clear low, smoked high, clear high, smoked low, clear or stock corner
