So, I just picked up a black on black 95 540i 6 speed. Its black on black and in great shape. Its got a few issues and one of them is the radio (factory). It has the CD changer in the trunk and it wont open. I tried the eject button and that didnt work. Radio says error when put in CD mode. How do I put new CDs in and make it work? Ideas?

Thanks

Thanks man. I found it on craigslist and went to look at it for sh!ts and giggles even though it had high miles. Turned out to be in mint shape, runs and drives excellent, and has dinan chip, intake, and suspension. Not bad for $3000.

Anyway, anyone have any idea how i can get a CD to play on my radio?

When I got my cd changer it has the same issue. I ended up taking it all apart and cleaning all the gears up some then put it back together and it works great now at this point.

when we got our '06 M3 it's cd changer didn't work either so I took off the insulation panels in the trunk and checked all the wires and one had come out and I just plugged it back in and it worked.

My CD changer didn't work when I got my car either. You can manually eject the CD magazine by sliding something very thin underneeth it and it will pop out. I cut a piece of thin cardboard (i.e. cereal box) to about 6 inches long and 3/4 the width of the cd magazine wide, and used that. I was also was able to take mine apart and get it working. Sometimes I think it just gets out of sync more or less with the radio. Like it thinks there is a magazine in there when there really isn't and vise versa. Hope that helps.

If the door won't open on the changer you might have a wire loose or a fuse blown, but i thought the door link to the eject button was mechanical. Also when you get it opened remember that the CD's go in the cartridge upside down. You will just get a Disk Error on the head unit if they are in wrong.
Good Luck and it sounds like yu got a good deal.

yep, thats the one...in Portsmouth. Its a clean car. Does have a few issues though. The shift linkage has a ton of play. Reverse is a bitch to find. Might need engine mounts or tranny mounts or both. Other than that, interrior is super clean and so is the exterrior. Engine sounds good and pulls hard.

I didnt beat the piss out of it. I just drove it like an e34 540i/6 should be driven.

Reverse was a bitch to find. The guy told me it had a minor oil leak.. You should check it out.

Also told me it was chipped.
