Hey guys, lately I have been noticing a sound that I beleive is my power steering. It is a distinct whirring/grinding/whining noise, but it usually only happens the first time I turn the car on in the morning, but I live in San Diego so I doubt the cold is causing it. It also makes more noise when the rpm's are higher while I am turning, while I am stopped and turn the steering wheel there is no noise, but if I rev it, right as the revs drop below 1k, it makes a faint whine. Does anyone have any ideas what this is?

Power steering pump. Either its on its way out, low on fluid, or fluid is dirty as shit.

Thanks man, I thought maybe it was something different because the sound was also changing with the rpm's

Replacing the pump or fluid?
EDIT: BTW It only happens when it is colder, what's up with that?

Changing the fluid is good. When I changed mine I noticed a big difference.

Start with the fluid and work your way up to the more expensive stuff. The fluid canister has some type of filter in which can get clogged. In my case I case it turned out to be the pump after replacing the canister, expensive hose and fluid. My power steering was completely gone. If your power steering still works, definitely do the fluid first and check the hose to the ps pump if it's leaky.
