Hey all,
I've got a 93 3.18is with 235k miles on the old girl. The other day the clutch was sort of shuddering at me but i just guessed it was due to the 0 degree weather. I go to start the car in the morning after and pressed the clutch and it went straight back to the floor with no resistance. The clutch was replaced a good 60k miles ago but i can start the car in gear and it moves so i'm down to the master or slave cylinder that has a leak.
What is the best way to test these to figure out which one it is?
Thanks.

Is there any fluid leaking? Check both to see, and that's normally a tell-tale sign. If there are no leaks, I'd start by removing the slave cylinder (considering it's only held on by two nuts). Check the rod for movement, and see if there are any leaks coming from it. If so, replace the slave cylinder. As a matter of fact, I'd start there anyway...they're cheap as hell and the worst you're gonna end up with is a new slave cylinder and have to replace the master after that...

Same exact thing happened to me. It was the master and slave cylinders.

ya there was a fresh couple of inches of snow on the car and ground and i didn't see anything on the ground but it could of easily seeped through. I will dive under the car and see what i can find. Would it leak from a hose or actually around the slave?

Either/or. It might also be leaking into the transmission bell housing if the seal for the piston rod is broken (or the rod just fell out...it happens)

+1 to that, my piston rod broke when I installed it the first time when I first installed it.
I replaced both my master and slave cylinders at the same time, then I when both were installed, I was bleeding the clutch and the piston rod broke and popped into the transmission.
Then I had to drop the tranny to retrieve the part and exchange it for a brand new one.
What was supposed to be a 1 day job (a couple hours) turned into a 3 day job... Dropping the tranny without the right tools and when the car isn't completely lifted sucks...

Ya if that happened it would be off to some shop if that happened.
Alright so it looked wet around the slave, haven't taken the panel trim off to get at the master. Should i put some more fluid in the reservoir and see if it seeps out?
So i just replaced the slave, went through the whole shabang bleeding and all that sorts. Now here's the thing, i need to push the clutch all the way to the floor to shift, and soon as i lift off the littlest bit it engages. Is this how it's supposed to be or is maybe the master gone too?
