Reviving an ancient thread, because I need this part too, and I also wonder if another part can be substituted if it isn't available.
I need P/N# 51712250462, but it lists as ENDED and BMW dealerships say to get on eBay. I see nothing there, but I wonder if anyone can tell me if P/N# 51718122360 (used on almost every other car, except the NA M3) would work too.

Would there be a subtle change, but it could work, or is it something substantial, like a contour that is meant to clear the M52 head/valve-cover that wouldn't work on the S52?

Can anyone help? Mine is rusted through on the bottom, and it seems that without this part, I am breathing in engine compartment fumes.

Thanks!

I show P/N ending in 462 is for 2 door E36 Coupe / Convertible (although BMW ETK says it fits the M3 sedan also? hmm). P/N ending in 360 is for E36 4dr Sedans and 318ti. It would make sense these may be a different size/shape as the hoods are different between coupe and sedan. I would try to source one used on eBay.
