Is is better to buy the silver rims or the black ones to ultimately paint them the color of the BBS RS-GT's? And does the BBS Diamond black have a paint code? Are they pain or powder coat?

What would be the prep work involved?

Thanks

If you can get the wheels already painted, do that. Taking it to a shop can run you a couple hundred dollars per wheel which ain't really worth it to me. I'll skip the backstory, but when I had to get my Breytons refinished it ended up being $250 per wheel. I was surprised and woulda raised hell, but insurance was paying for it so I didn't really care. But if you know someone who owns a paint shop or works in one, you could probly get them to do it for you for the cost of paint plus maybe another one or two hundo for labor. I had a friend of mine shoot my stock wheels black a few months ago and they turned out great. I told him they were my winter wheels and didn't really care if they were perfect, so all they had to do was scuff 'em up and shoot 'em, rather than going through the entire process of sanding, priming, sanding more, painting, and sanding more.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm really lookin at them for a substitute RS-GT and I know they're not the same material or built the same way, but if I could get away with just painting or better yet powder coating then I don't see why not, the rims practically the same. It's more of just gettin some ideas and see how much trouble it could turn out to be.

The diamond black is a two part paint process. You would have to find a shop that can do it. There is no paint code though. As far as which wheel to start with it really wont matter. They will strip the wheel before painting it.
If I can help with the wheels let me know.

ASA'a are not worth having refinshed, as the cost exceeds the cost of new ASA wheels.

So I am assuming you want to DIY this?

Start w/ a black wheel. Sand the finish as perfectly smooth as possible, and then paint over it w/ very light/even coats of a translucent chrome/silver paint, and finally clear.

A buddy of mine got a kit at Pep boys, baked on the paint and they looked great til some thug stole it. That's what he gets for getting a honda.
