I've searched high and low and can't find the weight of various E39 brake system options:

540i stock calipers/rotors
M5 NA stock calipers/rotors
M5 Eurpoean stock calipers/floating rotors

I'm also wondering how much of a difference those few pounds of sprung weight might have on road feel and comfort.

M5 NA stock rotors might be 19lbs:

Weight reduction from using floating rotors does not have a huge affect in the real world because the 2 lb's or so saved is very close to the hub (minimal affect on inertia). Time and money would be MUCH better spent on simply selecting a lighter tire for a given size (there can be as much as a 5lb difference from brand to brand), and of course light wheels.

I'm running a very light tire/wheel set-up right now (prolly 10lbs lighter per corner than stock), and I can feel the difference. It rides VERY well for a 19" set-up - better than my heavier 18" set-up over most stuff, except for the sharp-edged bump (where tire sidewall deformation is key).

In the absence of switching to an aluminum caliper (or carbon rotor$), brake systems are not really the place to look for weight reduction.
