If anyone is interested, there is an auto-x on the 18th at VMP with NASA. There will be three heats and lots of runs, 5 - 6, but probably more. I'll be out in the spec3 325i I've been building giving it a shake down.

If anyone else is interested, NASA is still looking for some more people to sign up to fill out the three heats and have enough cone workers so bring out the BMWs and have some fun in the cold!

Your car's class would be "Novice."

You can run whatever mods you want in the novice class, as you are only competing against other novice drivers on the results.

So you'll be driving down from Delaware Sunday =)

My car is getting finished up at Delta V today so I'll have my harnesses installed and a few other little projects they'll be finishing up for me. I'm very excited to see how the car will do, although its going to be cold as balls! Hopefully we will be able to keep the tires up to a decent temperature to get some good runs in!

dave, it's going to be a bit of a drive if it is at VMP.

Yep, VMP is not what I would call close to Delaware. Although we have people coming from all over the place, because there's not much else going on this time of year. I think there were like 5 or 6 states represented last time I checked the reg list.

Google map to 8018 Boydton Plank Rd, Petersburg VA 23803...

I'll be running in the Novice class. I still need to decide whether to get a hotel room or drive down early sunday, it's a long drive from Philly...

Hotel room? Good luck, have you heard of the inauguration? And good luck driving back up 95 north to the D.C. area.

I'm currently mounting up my 275/45 winters, gonna be the tire to have on this event.

Still debating between half-worn RA1's and fairly new MX's here.

I am not actually mounting up winters, but I am interested what kind of tires would work best in this kind of cold. My kumho mx's are awful in the cold as I assume most summer tires are.

Oh yeah, MX's are garbage in the cold. It'll look like drifting practice out there. However, some of us enjoy that. :D

Just booked a reservation for a hotel 20 min from VMP. Total Cost: $60.20.

I'll be heading back sunday night rather late so hopefully the highway will at least be moving.

Oh and I'll be running on Winter tires. :D

That's great, guess the local D.C. media is full of sh&t, gee imagine that.
They say closest rooms are in Delaware.

I ran summer tires (RE070s) at a Philly winter event a couple years ago and they were fine. Definitely better than all seasons would have been, as long as there is no water/snow out there. The main problem is keeping heat in them.

My Ecsta MXs are not that bad in the winter. Granted, I don't push them very hard, but they don't slide all over the place like they do in snow... or even rain.

I'm still trying to decide whether to come down for this. I'm just worried about 95 on the way back... have to be at work on Monday.

A good time was had by all, except by the guy in the white supra. And no traffic near D.C. going down or coming up! See you all at circuitcross.

Thanks again to everyone who came out! It was a fun day despite the chill.

The white Supra driver proved the point that no matter how friendly and fun these events can be, we have absolutely zero tolerance for jackassery. He may have cost us the use of that site in the future. :(

Anyway, results:

Looks like a fun event... but what happened with the Supra?

getfast

The white Supra driver registered and went through tech then decided to haul ass across the lot back to his spot in plain view of everyone. Specifically....

Violation 1- speeding at the site (speed limit from the gate to the course is 3mph, i.e. walking speed. I'd say he was doing at least 40-50mph?)

Violation 2- speeding close to parked cars and participants on foot (i'd say 20-30 feet at most?)

Violation 3- driving on the course side of the caution tape without authorization (instead of going back around behind the snack bar, as he had done to get to tech, and as everyone else was doing to get back to their paddock spot)

Violation 4- loud exhaust/blow-off valve during quiet hour (VMP noise regulations are in effect until 12:00pm unless authorized by me, i.e. course pre-runs, and he wasn't authorized to make noise)

Violation 5- no helmet on (if he was gonna be on the course side of the caution tape hauling ass, he would need a helmet for sure!)

He was immediately ejected without refund.

With any luck nobody from VMP saw it happen, because that kind of jackassery could lose the site for everyone. :(

Sorry, but I couldn't help but LOL. :rofl

But, on a serious note, that $h** isn't cool. Probably gave everyone something to talk about, though. :stickoutt Hope the site isn't lost for everyone...
