I just bought a 1997 528I w/92k and I love the car. I knew it had an oil leak when I bought it (3 weeks ago)but figured I could fix it later. It didn't seem that bad. I just did the DIY complete cooling system overhaul with great success (small leak from t-stat housing so I did everything). This morning I look under the car and no more antifreeze on garage floor but there was a big 5" puddle of oil. When I had the cooling system out I also pulled the power steering pump and alt to get a good look at the oil filter housing to rule out the "small leak" from the gasket., and it wasn't leaking from there. The oil seems to be under the oil pan.
sorry so long just trying to give as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance. Mike

9secdeuce,

Welcome to Bfc.
I believe the upper and lower oil pan gaskets are notorious leak points on the M62. The M52 only has one oil pan and I'm not sure how prone to leakage they are, but it's a good bet that may be the source.

Good luck.

also check to make sure the drain plug isn't loose/stripped.
