edmunds.com is claiming that the cooper S has a 0-60 of 6.9 seconds. Now, my E38 stock has a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds, is this time for the S correct?

After several runs with the Gtech I have to agree with the 6.9 numbers.

After drving one today I'll have to agree with that. I'm going to miss having all of that torque the E38 puts out.

Autoweek says 6.7, and they got 5.6 with the Works Package on there...

I have seen times very but 6.9 is about the average and a good number for it.

The more important number is the 1/4 time.

I know, and I've been scheming to find a Cooper S driver that would be game for a little race to see what happens after 7 seconds. Do you know of a place where I can find the 1/4 times?

You could search car mag websites:

www.caranddriver.com
www.automobilemag.com
www.motortrend.com
www.roadandtrack.com

Or you could try the sometimes unreliable:

www.car-stats.com

Most places that have 0-60, also have 1/4 mile times... :dunno

6.7 ...impressive...didnt think it was that quick

you guys really need to get some modded ones out there ripping up the street...i doubt 13sec is a difficult obstacle once you get alittle mod fever

I wonder how hard it would be to make one of these cars rear wheel drive.

Very very hard. You'd need to pretty much fabricate an entire transmission/differential setup, as well as finding a way to deal with the fact that the flywheel side of the motor on the car isn't facing toward the rear of the car as it would in a rwd car, it's facing the side. You can't just rotate the engine 90 degrees because the engine bay isn't long enough. Once you went that far you'd have to go through and get a custom suspension tuned for a more even weight distribution.

What if I dropped in an E36 M3 engine?

I guess you've never seen under a mini's hood.

About the only other damn motor that would fit would be a 13B...

My I6 wouldn't get anywhere near fitting...

5.6 seems a bit far fetched no?

Acutally I have, and I know its cramped. But I have seen a Mini racecar that races in some european class that is RWD and has an E36 M3 engine in it.

Probably about as fast as an E36 M3 with an average driver... ;)

I went to the track last night with a friend and his Mini Cooper S. 14.7 on his 2nd of 2 runs with intake/exhaust/pulley. It could probably drop another tenth or 2 off of that too.

I thought some crazy european dropped in an S54 motor in the mini?

Yes, Qvick dropped a euro M3 engine into the MINI One shell.

If you read about the car, however, you will find out that they had to remove the firewall, and fabricate a whole new one. NOT an easy task by any means.

They then had to fabricate a custom tranny and driveline as well as the exhaust system.

Sounds like $$$$$ to me.

Very sweet car though. :)
