I just tried mounting 18" wheels on my car today at a respectable shop and i was told there would be rubbing issues on the front fender. It seems like i can turn the wheel about 60% before the rubbing begins. They also told me that a fender roll wouldnt be enough. I see e36 m3's with 18" wheels no problem though. I guess the convertible has different fitments??
BTW the wheel size is 18x8.5 et35

Thanks
-Mike

if your car isn't lowered... it won't be a problem.

with the 35mm offset up front there maybe slight rubbing towards the plastic fender liner(if you're lowered) only when turning.
it would also depend on the tire size you're running(recommend 225 40 18's) any larger size will make the rubbing worse.
i have 18x8.5 bbs rc's w/ 36 mm offset w/ 225/40/18's up front w/ a "mild" lower and experience a very slight rubbing at 80% turn in-a fender roll wont correct this situation and luckily my plastic fender well covers have held up to this day:)

rears are 18x9.5(et 40 ?) w/ 255 35 18's-now i had to roll my rear fender lips for this....
look for some wheels that are in the 38-40mm range and you should be golden coz' when it come to wheels, every mm counts.

I figure i could get away without rubbing just have to remember not to turn the wheel that far(no u-turns & parking maneuvers). Im just worried that if it starts to rub will there be major scalping on that certain spot?

18X8.5 ET40 w/ 235/40/18 fronts. No rubbing w/ no fender rolling.

Am I the only living driver who thinks e36 vert looks sexy w/ shiny bottlecap 15's?

The e36 vert would look sexy even if it was standing on bricks.

i also have the same problem although mine is not a vert. it sounds like i can turn my wheels a bit further before i hear the rubbing though

Once I mount them after the winter I will post some pics. I was told by the mechanic that this would be a problem and I havent experienced this first hand yet. They wouldnt mount them on the car because of liability and the only thing they would do is put the tire on the wheel.
