Hello,
Does anybody have a chart or table showing what each pin is for and it's wire color?

Basically something like this for C101 but for X20? I have looked in the e32 and e34 ETM's and could only find the X20 connector view with pins, but no mention of wire colors or pin functions.

hmmm the etm will say where it is.

you know what it is for...

you look in the etm under engine wiring for x20 on the diagram?

X20 is a splice connector, in theory, so there are no factory pin outs for it. The only way to get them is to go through the ETM and do it yourself by noting everything that goes through X20. Go through engine management/starting/charging/instrument cluster & CC/HVAC, everything you will need are in those groups. I've done it a few times for various projects, not that hard.

Yes, I've looked at all 592+ pages of the e32 year 91 ETM and the last section 8500 Connector Views does not show any pins only a vew of the plug. I then looked at the 408 pages of e34 year 91 etm and basically the same thing.

I was hoping that maybe there was another manual with the pins labled so I wouldn't have to go through them one by one.

I need this in order to splice the b35 harness into the older style rectangular c101 connector.

This is the pinout I created for a 91 525i non-vanos M50 I was going to use in the M50 swap on my 88 E30. This was created by scouring the ETM for that year to find any reference to the X20 connector. I traced most of the wires manually to confirm the pinout was correct.

Be careful though, of using wiring pinouts created by others (myself included). The ETMs change from year to year and have been known to be inaccurate. Also, you get a much better understanding of how things are working by going through the ETMs yourself. The cars seem pretty complex until you trace the wires from the ECU to various components and connectors. Once you do that, you realize they are pretty simple when systems are isolated.

The ETMs can be found here (http://www.wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm)

This is a sample of what to look for: http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq59/88E30M50/SampleETM.jpg It shows pin 13 on the X20 connector which is a 1.5mm gauge green/violet wire.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! Here is what I found on another site, what I am looking for specifically is one for a 3.5L M30 engine.

This is a diagnostic port (x6002)

I've seen those diagrams for the diagnostic connectors from time to time, but I don't recall seeing one for the X20 connector. It does not take too long to build your own though by using the ETM. I did one for a vanos M50 last night in about an hour or so. Just look for every mention of the X20 connector and pin and keep a log on a spreadsheet. There are only 25 wires in there on the M50, so the M30 may have fewer. I just took a quick glance at the M30 ETM and could find about 6 of the wires in less than 5 minutes. It really pays to be familiar with the ETMs if you are doing a swap. It will make life easier by taking the mystery out of the wiring.

Will do, just figured if the info is already out there in a chart why not ask ? :)

thanks!

Hi there, i have the same problem, if i understand well. I would like to replace my M50 engine with M30, but the engine plugs are not the same. On my car, there is a 20 pin plug and on the M30 engine a 25 pin plug. The M30 is from a 1990/11 E34 so if you can, please help me somehow :help

You have two choices:

1) make an adapter from the 25pin to 20pin
2) get an ealier m30 harness from a pre 90 m30 car and it will be 20 pin.

So we attempted to make it the first way, we cuted of the old 20 pin connector and then we started to connect the wires to the X20. Only one thing (but very important) isnt working. The ignition starter switch is without power. So we overbridged the plug and connected it to the battery and it worked. But the problem is: where is the pin for it? (on the 1991 harnes X20) Or is it connected otherwise?

and please how can i write personal messages here? :(

And another question: Which is the best way to get the M30 3,5l to about 250hp , without turbo or compressor? THX

Its probably going to cost more then if you went with a turbo.

Port and polish the head, some HOT ! cams, bore and stroke the engine to like 3.9l. Miller MAF conversion :D along with a WAR chip.

Hmmm, ok turbo is a solution, but i cant agree with such a solution if i want only 50 horses to add. I see u have worked on many cars like mine, but i think there have to be a way to put the engines power up without changing all the stock parts. Or could really 50 hp more be a problem for the m30? I am thinking more about air intake, ehaust and chip ... See what you will say to this... :)

Yeah, i am going to put straight pipes behind the midsilencer on my 535, will not be such a hurricane like that V8 on the vid but pretty nice too :)

no, you want to increase HP by over 25%... that is not a simple Part + tune... unless it were already turbo'd.

Intake exhaust and chip... that's about 5 maybe 10 if you don;t make the exhaust and intake worse than factory parts. Assume by intake you mean the alpina/flipped conversion. Almost ALL of that 10 is the chip btw.

and WTF does this have to do with x20?

you should OM a mod and ask that from #14 onwards be split into a new thread, please.
