Has anybody done this where it doesn't get in the way of the luggage compartment? I can't do the spare tire well since I need my spare. Has anybody done one in the side? Is there enough room for a sub in there? Are there any decent, shallow subs?

Some new Mercedes products have subs installed on top of the spare, i will try to find out which models, cant remember off the top of my head

that won't work, tourings carry the spare tire face up... and it can't be flipped.

a couple of people have put 8" or 10" subs in the cubby door. I have seen a couple done that way.

I'm looking into the same thing. i thought about turning the spare tire over and putting it in there,or the left side where the factory wired cd changer and phone goes.

Hmm, what did they use? Free air subs or did they go with a fiber glassed box?

Any pics? I looked around a bit, but keep finding sedan stuff. :)

see above layton.

I thought about running a small sub in the corner as well, but decided not to and to use that area for storage (and amps) instead.

Ideally a small sealed enclosure could be built with the lost foam method of fiberglassin on the back of the door, with the sub mounted from the front.

they were mounted 'semi IB', sort of a poor mans aperiodic, because of the vent along the upperside. Guy stuffed it with a big pillow. :) look for 'ferret' on bimmernut.

other folks have told me how they had theirs mounted but this was predigital camera/internet days so no pics were available

Thanks! Time for some measuring. I have some spare parts from my parts touring that I can play with. Flush/rear mounted is better since I have dogs back there all the time.

I can't do my supercharger stuff until it warms up so time to work on the stereo stuff.

no real room for a decent excursion sub if you try to back mount. think it was about 5.5inches after taking into account the thickness of a rear mdf wall.

If you front mount and use a grill it will be ok. plus it will let you sandwich the abs door between a 1/2" mdf ring (or front plate) and a 1/2" mdf backing plate for much greater rigidity. think the door is 11" tall, just tall enough for most 10"
