OMG...for a brief minute I think this M3 turned me into a "try-sexual".
While first looking thru the pics...the first reply was my exact sentiments (dayummmmm!). Then as I kept looking  ...I was trying to think of a nice way to ask if his sister would be interested in going out on a date with a 50 year old man (as long as we took her car). :eyebrows
Then when it was brought up that the car looked like one posted previously mentioned that belonged to someone's father...for a split second I wondered if Dad would go out on a "driving date" in the M3 with a 50 year old man! :eyecrazy Then I quickly dismissed that thought after regathering my scrupples and manhood!

I had a 450hp race car. I didn't kill myself, or others.
Age does NOT equal maturity/responsibility level.
Judging someone at all based on the wealth of their family or gifts they receive seems to be based in jealousy rather than reality.
I can guarantee you that if I was someone with rich parents, and they decided to give me something, I sure wouldn't turn it down. That doesn't make me a bad person.

I'm going to hope that was on track, otherwise, you've just given everyone reason to judge your lack of maturity/responsibility.

not judging parents with $$$, nor of the girl who was the willing recipient of such a nice ride.
The same would apply to parents who give their kid a 5k 1990 Mustang 5.0, or a 300hp turbo civic. Young adults, particularly young men have no judgment, period.
The stats bear this out...Drivers between the age of 15 and 20 accounted for only 6.9 percent of all licensed drivers, but were involved in 16.0 percent of all accidents and 14.0 percent of all fatal accidents. The fatality rate for drivers 16 - 19 is about 4 times as high as the rate for drivers age 25 - 69.

And haha, I got a 385hp 5.0 when I was 16. Still got it and never a wreck. It's just about how responsibly your parents raised you. I'm not 18, still in HS and still not a wreck and it's pushing some M crushing power. ;)

My sister could have bought this 2002 530i in perfect shape with 2 sets of tires on rims and 80,000 Km's for $14,700 tax in.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h239/Mark633CSi/PB220201.jpg
Instead, she listened to my dad... who hates any car not made in Michigan... and got this for $14,800. It's a 2008 Cobalt LT. Identical to the photo. It's is alot less car for an extra $100 bucks... argh.

I cant stand it either. Although we are in different situations.
People say, "oh, wow, you must have money"
I think in my head "my classic 5 cost as much as your cobalt"
Its true, the cobalt thing.
And not to be snobbish in any way, but, I also cant help but shake my head in dissapointment when girls are talking to their "girlfriends" like OMG you got the new Cobalt? What, like, color? Like, OMG! You know and its the one with all the FAKE Gucci bags, shoes, etc.

"she has no idea of cars and what they can do."
I was willing to give him the benefit of my doubts until he made the above statement.
It would be a great service if his father invisted in a CCA drivers school for his daughter. She would have a much better chance of seeing the age of 20.
An automobile of this sort, whether BMW, Corvette, etc. in the hands of someone that young, is a disaster waiting to happen, unless that person is someone like a Graham Rahal.
My daughter is 18. In addition to the state mandated "drivers ed.", she has attended a two day defensive driving clinic, is about to attend a winter drivers clinic, and will attend a teen drivers school this spring at Mid-Ohio. The cost is worth it, if it save a life.
A close friend in high school was given a brand new 1969 SS Nova by his father who owned a chevy dealership. My friend never made it to graduation - the totaled car did and ended up on the front lawn of our school for several weeks as a reminder.

ohlins8990
12-28-2008, 01:22 AM
Thats a problem if you ask me...one needs to know what the car is capable of and what it does at the limit. That's how I lost my first car. I had no idea how to handle it at the limit and when I got in an emergency situation(guy swerving across 5 lanes of traffic, I was in 5th lane), I didnt respond correctly and lost it to a concrete wall.
But, I'm not encouraging trying to find limits on public streets, but one needs to know where they are.

You know, you guys talk about fear a lot.
Have you ever ridden with a girl driving, period? Geez, it's like a bad rollercoaster where your life flashes before your eyes enormous amounts of times.
Andy it must be nice having rich parents, which give you and your sis nice gifts. I wondering how you will survive once the nice gifts stop coming and you have to grow up and fend for yourself.
jesus dude, you jealous much? grow up, im sure his parents worked very hard to get where they are now, and for them to want to share tha lifestyle with there kids is no business of yours.
you pretty much made yourself out to be an immature little bitch.
sure, ive never been given anything quite like an m3, and yeah ive worked hard, for every car ive ever owned.. but you dont see me losing sleep over someone lucking out and reciving an m3 as a gift.
As for the other statements about teenage boys lacking judgement and apparently driving abilities, im 19 and that WRARRR gets me livid. who are you to judge me when you dont know me? why is it ok for you to assume all of these things. sure ive only been driving for three years, and no, i dont have the driving experience that Q or any of the other senior members here have, but only so much of driving is knowing what to expect. if you drive defensivley.. you really cant go wrong. sure i cant change a patch of black ice, but i sure as hell can manage my clutch and brake at the same time while the asshole infront of me jumps into my lane 3 feet ahead of me then hits the brakes.
The majority of teenage deaths associated with cars, tend to not be those associayed with high power either. its either under the influence, or some kid taking his stock eclipse up to 140 and expecting to stop in 200 feet for the highway off ramp. ask me how i know.

Now Im talking to that "parents arn't loaded too much" idiot,
By the way my parents arent loaded. This was like a mid life crisis and when my father snapped out of it he decided the should go to her.
Plus, Im 16 guys. No way is he gonna give me that. My sister's previous car, also her first, cost <$15,000. Mine, 2 years later in life, cost $15,000 on the dot.
My sister is still keeping her previous car in great shape and usually will drive that
I would not consider that loaded. You go look at any mid life crisis cars and see what they are.
Another thing, Im perfectly happy with my e39. Gonna keep it through college.

i'm not buying that the parents aren't wealthy in some respect.
Paradise Valley is home to twelve resorts, making it one of Arizona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona)'s premiere tourist destinations. It has exclusive real estate, with a median home price at $1.74 million,[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_Valley,_Arizona#cite_note-2) with many exceeding $5 million and some over $20 million.
You don't live in a nice neighborhood with a median home price that high without being well into or above the upper-middle-class line.

While that is certainly true, either way he put the effort into paying for that car and that's commendable at his age. Even if he doesn't have too many other expenses most people his age wouldn't work to pay for a nice car and would spend those years in there parents basement smoking pot and eating pizza playing video games with there friends. I think its much better that he worked his a$$ of and got the car he dreamed of.

More power to you, and there are exceptions to every rule. You seem humble about it and I applaud you for working for your own keep (I assume that's what you are looking for? But seriously, much respect!). However giving a 19 year old (male or female) a 400hp, sporty, peaky (power band wise), high revving, high grip (which means when the limits are passed the consequences will be MUCH WORSE), $60k+ car just screams of poor decision making in my book. I'm all for doting on your children; HOWEVER we all know what it's like to be out with your friends, peer pressure, yada yada yada. Bad things are not guaranteed to happen, but experience is key and more often than not, that comes with age. (Or a metric @#!* load of seat time).
To the OP: The new M3's are gorgeous, a friend of mine has a white coupe and I would really like a white sedan, that being said my e39 is almost every bit the car the e92 is IMO (Minus the interior and the handling difference)... and I certainly would rather stick with the "cheaper" alternative.

Most of us fend for ourselves rather nicely. How else are we supposed to expect a big inheritance? We can't piss our parents off by being leeches all our lives...
I have a job, I pay my rent, and I like my toys. And I never got a gift that nice, but, in about 30-40 years, once my parents keel over dead, I'll have a very nice chunk of change to work with.
And it's all about the long term. I have investments, I have a future. And most of us do. And most of us resent this kind of uninformed baiting prejudice.

This thread is painful...
I'm surprised at how many of you guys keep saying sh*t against the women. I'd trust my girlfriend with my car or any of her parents cars without hesitation. It all comes down to teaching your kid to drive and respect the road. Her parents have the new M3 and she drives it any chance she has, her brother is about to turn 21 and just bought nitrous for his '04 M3 and no one is worried about that.
If the OP's sister just got that car and her parents trust her with it, then so be it. Now, if a few months go by and we see a new post about a destroyed M3, then it might be a different story. But how many women do you see on the forums boasting about hitting a 140 mph or destroying a 528i in their 540i? It's rare, girls don't always have a need for flair to show off what they have when it comes to driving.
Although, if the OP's sister is the kind of girl that sits at a traffic light adjusting her mascara, then the OP should probably get some balls and have a heated discussion with his parents to take over the M3 and give the sister a car that won't cost a few k's for a repairs or possibly some traffic fines.

i'm not buying that the parents aren't wealthy in some respect.
You don't live in a nice neighborhood with a median home price that high without being well into or above the upper-middle-class line.
My mother lives in PV. My father lives in North Central Phoenix. Our house is valued at $400,000 (probably less now)
As I said, mid life crisis
Look at the guy's sig though. That isn't a high end neighborhood by any means.
:mad
No, not a high end neighborhood. But a VERY, VERY, clean, nice, fun neighborhood. I love it. PV is great, ONLY for the views and peace.
But, you dont know any of your neighbors, not socially correct
I'm rather curious as to the current age demographic of E39 owners now that I read this thread.

amen to that.

really, it's all relative. perfectly green grass, perfect concrete driveways, etc. etc. If a median house price is $1.4mil. then the local area's home prices will be inflated as well.
My condo is $140k; I highly doubt your house is only worth in the neighborhood of $400k

This thread really get me upset. I'm sixteen years old and paid for my bimmer. I started cutting neighborhood yard when i was 13. 3 years later i have only 20 plus yards and paid for my car myself in cash. I dont understand why people get upset for us younger people working hard and buying our own cars. Everything i get i put into my car. it just gets me mad because i work hard for what i got and respect it more. Sorry for preaching it just bothers me
We're not hating on people like you who buy your own cars by working hard and earning it! we're hating on the people who turn 16 and get a $15,000 car as a 'gift' from daddy. The difference here is you appreciate what you have because of the time you spent working and earning it! It wasn't a 'gift' from mommy and daddy.... People who got their cars as gifts....don't have that same appreciation as you do.... no matter what they say.... The car you have...'if you worked for it' then you deserve it....
I'm rather curious as to the current age demographic of E39 owners now that I read this thread.
I'm also curious... I am a 23 year old 2001 E39 driver...
Not all women are bad drivers.... there's a hand full of women that I think are good drivers...

its just jealousy that when the old men here started driving they either earned or were handed POS's. no worries. i respect anyone who is that young and can afford an e39
again. jealousy from some people who will probably never own an m5 or didnt have anything close to it when they were 19. u worked for it, and u know that urself so it doesnt matter if an online forum gives u approval :buttrock

Well i guess i will chime in too..........good for him if he or his sister or anybody else gets a car. I too recieved a car when i turned sixteen and then 3 years later got a brand new car to go to college in....thats what some get....like it or not! No need to try and bring someone down because the parents have the money to buy them a car. I respected mine just as much reguardless of who paid for it and i got no tickets and didnt drive into a house either. For that matter i have know many adults who bought their own car and then drove it into a house. Jsut my opinion i could be wrong!

Is a 19 year old behind the wheel of a E92 M3 more dangerous than a 35 year old behind the wheel of a 1988 Camaro with shot ball joints going down the highway at 70 mph? That ball joint lets loose and he veers into oncoming traffic.... you get the picture.
When I was 19, I had a 1985 Mustang GT with an SVO 351 crate motor. It was crazy fast in a straight line. It was also in showroom condition. I wanted to keep it that way because I was 19 and was one of the only ones out of my peer group to have a car like that. Sure I drove like a douche bag quite a bit but I was careful at the same time... if that makes any sense.
The kids that come into our dealership with cars given to them by thier parents usually take pretty good care of them. They really don't seem to treat them any differently than anybody else would. Even if it was a 40 year old mother of 3 who paid for her vehicle in cash. The guys we have to watch out for here are the guys in Dodge diesel 4x4's!!

I don’t give a shit when young kids drive nice cars but i hate when it gets to their heads. COCKY young girls or guys do not deserve cars like that especially when parents buy it for them.
I hope your sister is not one of those girls, from what you describe her as she seems like she will appreciate what she has.
please convince your parents to send her to bmw driving school.

i agree.
its reallt pissind me off. all the assumptions older members are making about younger members. im 19, i live on my own, im paying for school, i work full time and ive paid for every car ive ever owned. ive never gotten in an accident, i do have three points on my liscence and am currently on driving probation (85 in a 55....) but this doesnt change the fact that i know how to drive. i know the limits of every car i drive and i would NEVER push a car to them, around other people or under conditions i couldnt handle.

jesus dude, you jealous much? grow up, im sure his parents worked very hard to get where they are now, and for them to want to share tha lifestyle with there kids is no business of yours.
you pretty much made yourself out to be an immature little bitch.
sure, ive never been given anything quite like an m3, and yeah ive worked hard, for every car ive ever owned.. but you dont see me losing sleep over someone lucking out and reciving an m3 as a gift.
Not to judge you personally, but your speaking out of emotion rather than facts. The young driver statistics quoted earlier are fact. You may or may not fall into this category. My son's first car was a Taurus SHO 5 spd manual. It has performance characteristics close to a 3 series. He was and still is with his E36 M3 (he is now 23) a driver with sound judgment. We bought the SHO as a father/son project. It sat in the garage for 6 weeks while the clutch was replaced, timing belt, water pump, valve adjustments, etc. During this time we developed a closer relationship that allowed me to discuss with him (a teenager that was willing to listen and discuss) the consequences of doing really stupid things on the streets. The big plus here is that since he now had so much time and some of his money invested into this project, he was not going to go out and destroy it.
However, this is not the norm and hence, this explains why so many have raised concerns with high powered vehicles in the hands of young drivers.
Facts are facts. Back in the mid 60's - early 70's "kids" were dying left and right driving muscle cars with large engines. Too much power in the hands of the inexperianced. I also owned several muscle cars. My father was not too happy with a 16 year old driving a 63 Dodge ragtop with a 383 four barrel. Not a good combination for most young adults when they accerated quickly, stopped poorly and handled like shit. I unlike others exercised more reasonable judgement then many others however I took risks back then due to my imaturity that I would never ever take now. Some new drivers will be very responsible and make good decisions. Most due to being young, inexperianced, and having the "Can never happen to me attitude" that comes with an immature brain will too often act on impulse or peer pressure to do really stupid things, especially in a high performance vehicle that all to often has dire consequences.
This thread really get me upset. I'm sixteen years old and paid for my bimmer. There is no poster here that I can tell is putting down young adults because they worked hard to purchase and maintain their ride. I commend any young (or old adult) that works hard (legally) to get ahead and enjoy the fruits of their labor. http://images.bimmerforums.com/vb3images/icons/icon14.gif
The points being made that are in fact true statements are:
- If you live at home with free room and board you can likely afford a more expensive car than if you had to pay for all your living expenses.
- High performance vehicles in the hands of young inexperienced, hormone charged, drivers are all too often a deadly combination as statistics bear this out.
- Being given an expensive vehicle from your parents with all expenses paid typically does not help you as a young adult to appreciate and respect that property on the same level as you would if you worked hard for it.
- The last 2 statements do not apply to everybody
Most of us fend for ourselves rather nicely. How else are we supposed to expect a big inheritance? We can't piss our parents off by being leeches all our lives...
I have a job, I pay my rent, and I like my toys. And I never got a gift that nice, but, in about 30-40 years, once my parents keel over dead, I'll have a very nice chunk of change to work with.
And it's all about the long term. I have investments, I have a future. And most of us do. And most of us resent this kind of uninformed baiting prejudice.
Hah, I hope your parents spend every dollar they have and enjoy life leaving nothing behind to a spoiled brat kid that is thinking this way.
That you personally work hard to enjoy the fruits of your labor and assuming that your saving 20% of your paycheck for retirement is commendable if true.

I think that's great! I plan to do the same with my 14 year old daughter. She has shown a great interest in cars (and even more in lifted trucks). We are starting to discuss what kind of vehicle she wants and then we will spend the next 1 1/2 - 2 years fixing it up. I want her to have respect for her ride and it not be just a gift that showed up from no where. I also want her to be able to fend for herself if she were stranded. If she spends 2 years helping me fix it she'll be more likely to be able to fix it if she gets stranded.
