E39 530D Auto. Gearbox problem.

Hi can anyone help, last night my car would not change gear until it reached about 3500 rpm in first and second gear and then it came up with Trans. Failsafe Prog , and lost most of the power. Is it likely to be a gearbox replacement or repair or could it be a torque converter problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Glenn.

Have the codes ran.
Has the ATF been replaced?

Hi Jason, I will get the codes read and as for the ATF, I dont know what this is but I am sure it has not been replaced as I've owned the cac for the last 6 years and have not had it changed. the car ihas done 176000 miles but still in great condition so I would like to repair it if its worth it. Love to know what the aATF is. Cheers. Glenn.

Hi Glenn,

As far as I know, ATF is your gearbox oil. Maybe You should drive Your car to some local BMW garage...
