View Full Version : Alignment in North Dallas?

I need to find someone who can perform an alignment on my e30. Just front toe. I can't take it to just anybody because of the low ground clearance.
I usually take my stuff to Gary's alignment way down in Dallas of of I35. The last time I took a car there, some noob dialed in too much toe and I completely scrubbed a pair of new Eagle F1's in 300 miles. Not worth the hour drive for me from McKinney.
Anyone know who can do it? Preferably in North Dallas.

Do they do wheel repair too?

I don't think they do. I took my E30 M3 2.5 there when Autoscope couldn't aling it (said there was something bent in the rear end).

Boardwalk in Plano. Most alingment machines register in fifths (I believe) and theirs registers in 32nd's.

Gary's alignment is pretty shady. Told them to align the toe to factory spec, then watched the "tech" sitting in my car doing nothing for a while, then he took it for a drive and said it had a slight pull to the right.
Dude in the lobby types up some numbers when he was done, saying that i have -4 camber on passenger wheel, and -1.5 on drivers side (which is BS, that much difference would be clearly visible) and says I need to pay them 700 to bend the strut back in shape. To which I said fk no (but they insisted they did the work, and I needed to pay 60 for the "alignment" )
Took it to Firestone for an alignment and now it tracks straight, and the number sheet they printed was a lot more even (on things that can't be adjusted like camber).
Should I contact BBB and get a refund from Gary's?

That sounds pretty bad... I'm now thinking of contacting the BBB...
To update everyone, I called around on Wednesday to see if anyone was able to get me in... Couldn't find one who could until Saturday and I was running out of time. Well, I called up ol' Gary and told him who I was and asked if he guaranteed his work, etc... Got all the good "we're your friend" salesman junk. So I decided to give it another go with him since I had to get it done.
Got there and waited about 1.5 hours for his tech to adjust the friggen toe on my car. I paid $65, talked to Gary a minute about the work, and left.
Immediately I noticed the steering was much heavier around center, indicating something isn't right. I called back and confirmed with him how much toe he put in. ".30 degrees negative". I drove home and found that in the 50 miles driven since the "alignment", I had scrubbed 1/32" from the front tread. WTF. I called him back to see what he could do.. Now he's all defensive and no longer MR nice guy. I argued with him for 15 minutes, he contends that my suspension is all worn out and its wearing faster because of the camber... He says he "Doesn't know what to tell me, we do ferrari's you know- we're never wrong".
I measured the f'n toe with a tape measure and two metal plates, there's almost 1/2" of toe out in the car...He wants to charge me another $65 to fix their screw up, since I "Didn't tell him what specs were wanted"! :mad
I just made a few turns to the rack to dial it in, now its the way it should be... Friggen idiots. Never again.

I took my 911 to Kauffman tire in frisco, they use hunter laser guide, the people are real nice and costed me 79 bux. 12 month warranty. they let you in the shop and let you go under the rack. their rack can even mount the pcar up on with no issues. the rack is actually below ground then lifts up.i can post up my specs in alil . they are great. align my steering wheel and all. hell I could had even done with that alignment machine. it told the tech step by step what he needed to adjust to get it back into specs.
when you call there ask for george, said eric with the 911 sent you. Marlon is the alignment tech. they balance my tires for free all the time even though all I have ever paid them was the 79 for the alignment.

Dont like 5th gear. They all think theyre know it alls, meaning if youre going to them, youre an idiot, so they can charge you whatever because you really dont know what it should cost, or they just dont want to deal with you because they have enough business. Plus they seem more interested in selling cars than actually working on them.
"Doesn't know what to tell me, we do ferraris (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=15113060#) you know- we're never wrong." Never saw them work or sell ferraris, but that definitely sounds like it could have easily been 5th gear since they do sell/work on some nice vehicles.
Anyway, whats wrong with NTB? I took my e30 there and it has low clearance. I would most likely trust a company that specializes in such a service rather than a company that does everything.

my buddy works at NTB in grapevine, off 121 and grapevine mills pkwy. take your car there and tell him what you want and he will set it, or tell him whats wrong with the car and he'll fix it. he doesnt rush also and if you want you could be there or sit in the car while he's setting it so the driver weight could be accounted for.

That the one I go to. I have a VIP card. Not sure what kind of deal I get with it though.

at the risk of saounding like an ass. the alignment shop should know already. If you want custom specs, you need to research what you have and what you want to do with your car, and then tell them what you need when they align.
I had my E46 M3 aligned with the minimum toe front and rear, and minimum camber since I was doing 30k miles a year in it. drastically improved tire wear.

Yes. In this day in age alignment shops will have a machine (Hunter brand is the most popular) The computer tells the employee exactly what range your car needs to be at for reduced and even tire wear, since thats what the average customer wants. They very rarily get customers wanting bizarre settings for cornering purposes. Those that do typically do their own work as their setup have an easier customizable setting
