Well, of course this comes at the perfect time....when I need my car the most. Anyways, this past weekend we had a cold snap, and it was getting down to -10ish at night, and not much more than 5 degrees during the day. Went out to start my car, it fired up after a couple cranks....but then died right away. Now all it does is crank, and every couple cranks it will sputter and spit like it is trying to fire, but it wont.

The car has been perfectly fine up to this point, never has it had a problem starting. Not sure if it is the cold weather that froze something up? Thought possibly water in gas so i poured some iso heet in there to see what that does. Im kind of baffled, Im thinking my fuel pressure regulator is stuck? Because it is obviously getting spark, and some sort of fuel because it tries to fire up.\

Any ideas would be great, I need my car...and it is just sitting it my driveway continuing to get snowed on and more buried!

Plugs are probably all wet because if the engine doesn't start the injectors are still shooting gas into the intake manifold. You will need to take out the plugs and dry them or put new plugs in. Or you can wait until Spring, by then the gas should have evaporated from someof the cylinders.

Or you could have a bad CPS (crank position sensor).

I would not like to be doing either one in this type of weather. You got to BEAR down.

I suspect that the engine is flooded and your battery is low. A flooded BMW engine needs a specific technique to start it. Take a look at this post for an E32/38 V8 which describes how to get the battery fully charged and then start the engine. However, read the note at the very bottom of the page: It could be a CPS:

Thanks, I am going to try that.

I do not think it is teh cps, my old e32 had a bad cps and it was a whole different story.

fixed it...pulled the plugs and replaced them. Fired right up. Thanks for the help guys!
