View Full Version : Changed cluster lights - now cluster acting funky...

The car is a '91 525i.

I tried to be as careful as I could with the cluster when removing and opening it. Is it possible I bumped something and now the caps need to be replaced?

I pulled it to change a burnt-out bulb for the main backlighting and when I re-installed everything and started the car, the tach didn't work and the "Brake fluid" light and "Inspection" LEDs would flash.

I smacked the dash a few times and the lights stopped flashing and the tach started working but now the temp gauge doesn't work and I have the SRS light on. I followed the Bentley to a "tee" for the airbag removal. Probably had the battery disconnected for a half-hour before working on it. I'll assume it's thrown a code.

The check control also says my brake linings are worn which it was not doing before. Everything was working fine before I removed the damn cluster! :mad

Thanks in advance.

Loose connections.:confused

Had to pull the cluster back out again to replace some more burned-out bulbs. Made sure everything was nice and snug and now I've got working gauges and an OBC again!

The airbag light was still on - but, eh..... I'm not terribly fond of an eighteen year old airbag going off in any accident. So I pulled the bulb out.

I've seen a video of a regular daily driven car that was about 15 years old have an airbag test. The airbag went off when it was suppose to and it was like a new car. They are made to last for the most part.

If I were you, I'd get the SRS reset.

Yes, it would be nice to have everything working properly - though I'm certainly not paying a dealer to reset the system. Once I start going to some meets and such in the spring maybe I can find someone willing to do it on the side or something like that. I'm just glad to have a working dash again!
