Guys,
Need some help if you can. I am sure no one here has these cheapo Taiwaneses headlights - but thought someone with some wiring expertice could help. I have a call into the seller - but no idea when he will call me back. I have a 97 540i.
This may seem a little discombobulated becasue of all the words needed to describe the issue - but if you were here - it would be very easy to see.
Bought some cheapo ($60 shipped) headlights from a guy here on bfc. Here are some pics. I know - go Hella, etc... But I dont want to spend that kinda money - so thought I try these out - for the price.
I installed the passenger side. Fit is great - hi and low beams work fine.
BUT on the headlight the parking/turn signal has no connector coming off of it. Just a green and a white wire (see pic). No connector to plug them into the factory connector. HOWEVER - there is a seperate connector (see pic) that has a green and white wire attached. It seems to want to plug into the connector with the white and black wires coming off the high and low beams - see pic (I think these might be AEs - but not sure).
So the only thing I can think to do is splice the green and white wires into the wires on the factory connector for the parking/turn signal. The factory parking /turn signal connector has a brown wire, brown/blue wire and white/blue wire.
Hope this makes sense.
Any ideas??
UPDATE: spoke to the seller and he said he thought that the factory connector for the parking/turn signal is not used - just slice into the factory wires with the green and white wires. He did not remember which 2 of the 3 factory wires (brn, brn/blue, shite/blue) to connect to.
Thanks

So what you're saying is that the turn signals don't have a plug to them?

Correct - not connector on the turn signal.
The seller did say that they do have AEs and that the white and green wires off the parking/turn signal plug into the AEs (connected to the high and low beams) using the supplied connector.
I think now I just need to splice the geen and the white wires - right behind the factory connector and just leave the factory connector - "unconnected" and hope I dont get any lighting errors on the display. Again though - the facotry parking/turn signal connector has 3 wires going into it. Brown, Brown/Blue, White/blue - I only need to connectoto 2 of them - but which two??
Ok - I just into it - WTH.
Using a splice connector - I spliced the white wire coming off the AEs and the headlight parking/TS to the brown wire off the factory Parking/TS connector.
Spliced the green wire coming off the AEs and the headlights Parking/TS to the brown/blue wire.
Results - turn signal works - but Parking light does not. AEs not working either.
Maybe I have the wrong combination. I am not using the white/blue wire off the factory parking/ts connector at all.

make sure your bulb system inthe new lights doesn't have a common ground system, where you would need to onnect the 2 wires to the 2 hot leads from the parking light and turn signal, and let it ground thru the bulb circuit. if I had a test meter and those lights in front of me, i could tell you pretty quickly.

Weel = I have tried numerous combinations.
I can get the Turn signals to work and the Parking lights to work - but not at the same time.
Maybe I need to combine the wires from the factory connector.
Here is what I have
White wire headlight - Brown wire from Factory connector
Green wire headlight - brown/blue wire from FActory connector
- I get TURN SIGNALS - BUT NO PARKING LIGHTS
White wire headlight - Brown wire from Factory connector
Green wire headlight - White/Blue wire from Factory connector
- I get PARKING LIGHTS - BUT NO TURN SIGNALS
What if:
White wire Headlight - Brown wire from Factory Connecotr
Green wire Headlight - Bron/Blue AND White/Blue from Factory Connector
I just dont want anything to POP.

I'm not gonna be able to help with wiring but I think at night not having parking lights will look good and during the day you won't be able to tell. I would just stick with the turn signals and call it a day. Some people try to get this setup so you got lucky and ended up with it.

Why don't you remove the plugs from the previous headlights, and use them on the new headlights? First see which wires go to which on the previous headlight, and mark them with a sharpie.

Oh man, I would've kept the stock halogens over that. If you end up not using those and don't wanna fork over for Hellas, atleast go Depo

Yea Expo - I beat you to your comment in my first post. My originals were a little cloudy and I tried sanding and polishing and it was better - but nothng like a new one looks.
Maverick - that was my first idea - but the socket is slightly differnet on the new headlight vs the original. So it wont fit.
I'll try connecting the brown/blue and the white/blue together tomorrow and see what happens.
Just had car inspected - so I have a year before I'll need to have the parking lights work for a state inspection.

What i'm saying is chop off the socket from the old headlights and connect it with the wires from the new one.

Ah ha - I see.
I might just do that. I'll look at it tomorrow.
Thanks for the idea Maverick.
