For you F/I guys. Do you start in first gear and go on and off the throttle so your not bouncing off the rev-limiter? I was also suggested to start in second gear and do it then? this is for the 6MT guys btw. I know you smg guys can cheat at this

I stay in first and hold it around 6000rpm.

I know what I will do in the pro car. 1st ,second ,high gear and buzz it till 6500. LOL but on a street driver you are best to do second gear if you can get them to break loose without much clutch slip. Get in the water and bring the rpm up to about 4500 and dump the clutch as not to slip it at all. This should break the tires loose and keep them spinning you must control the rpm after that. If it seems too hard on the clutch then you must do it in 1st ,but that in my opinion isn't enough tire speed to get the tires warm in the short period of time you have. just my opinion ///J.T.///

JT I was watching a video and the guy was in a 2 or 3 speed automatic (fully auto I guess) and hes doing his burnout and inches out of the water and the car shifts and as it shifts it gets traction and he went rocketing passed the tree unexpectedly it was ridiculous.

I always start in second. First doesnt spin the tires fast enough to get em really hot IMO.

This question is too general. if runnin DR's a quick 1rst gear cleanup. DR;s general do not need alota heat.

However when im racing with my hoosier quick times slicks i do mostly 2nd gear burns but have had best results with 3rd gear burnouts. Unfortunately after a few 3rd gear burns 2 trannies didnt last, so i wouldnt realy recommend that unless runnin around the 3.91 diff range. All burnouts i spin at redline and ride out till tires start to grab.

A friends dad built the almost exact same car, for someone in kansas.
He races outlaw, bright Pink Nova II. I think he's the fastest in his league.

Nice car.

I hope none of you are doing burnouts with street tires....they just get greasy from the heat and lose traction. They just need a little 1/2 sec one to clean them at most. R's and Strip tires of course are a whole nuther beast...smoke away! :D

I just burn through first to the staging light, only to
get all the water off the tires.

street tires.

Tried going through the gears in the burn out
box once and the clutch melted in 3rd. :(

mine is NA, but second gear bouncing off the 8000rpm limiter gets the job done on DRs

Yep. There is no point to burn out on street tires. Spin them quick after you go through or around the water just to get the crap off them.

Warming street tires does help. You have to remember your tires are *NOT* up to temp just driving around on the street. Doing a small burn out and checking tire temps then adjusting tire temps is what you should do but again that takes a test and tune day.

Most HP street tires have a tread wear rating below 250, so they are very sticky when at the right temp. The burn out doesn't need to be much longer then say 5 seconds.

For circuit racing it takes me around 2 to 3 laps to warm my tires up before getting max grip out of them.
