Hey, I'm thinking about getting HIDs but I like my car to seem very stock, I already have a super modded out track car that gets lots of attention and just want to blend in with my M3 daily, everything on it is US or euro factory except for some little suspension and misc tweaks, so that I don't have to deal with any regulation crap (I even sprayed my Koni Yellows' and sway bars black!).
>>What HIDs & Euro Glass projector lenses are the highest quality and have the most stock looking color temperature? (I think this is closer to the white 4000k range except for e39?) I'm even thinking about getting angel eyes if they look pretty stockish (which I think is kind of a dim yellow with a duller intensity?) but havn't decided yet, most angel eyes I see seem too bright and bluish. I want the average person to look at the car and think it is totally stock even with the lights. The Hella kit with black background has a nice lens, which is this? I don't like the chrome backgrounds. And I always thought the lenses with the horizontal lines looked kinda cool. Thanks

unfortunately, no one sells dimmer angel eyes, and i think bright ones look bad on any car. I also dont think they belong anywhere on the E36 regardless. You can buy a set of ZKW headlights, and they are a recognized OEM replacement for euro cars, so thats about as stock as you can get. They have projectors, and the OEM temperature for pretty much all cars in general is 4300k. That is pure white light.

Cool, thanks. Those have the horizontal lines that I liked. Is there a generally accepted "best" 4300k HID kit?

Best stock looking setup:
Bosch or ZKW Ellipsoids, no angel eyes, and 4300K HID.

The most stock looking ones come on cars from the factory, the rest look kind of tacky.
Angel eyes have no place on E36 IMO, and for years I didn't want to upgrade to HID, but there is really a huge difference in visibility between HID and even the most expensive and best regular bulbs. And since ZKW and Hella are so expensive, Depo it is.

Just a thought, fwiw you might consider Apexcone instead. More durable and flexible plastic. Lots of people have issues with the brittle depos. About the same, though from what I hear the cutoff point on the Apexcones isn't as sharp. something like that.

You could do a retrofit with Lightwerkz or some other place. If you are looking for something OEM, that's as OEM as you're going to get - certainly better than putting a kit into a projector that was not designed for HID.

Wow those Lightwerkz do look excellent, I think I'll give them a call. Thanks

DanNo way, I bought the apexcones at first, then when I inspected them for quality I returned them in exchange for Depo's. Have you had new sets of both? I have, and I would recommend Depo's.

REALLY!? Thanks. Wow, no actually I don't have them yet, just been researching both heavily -- thought I'd made up my mind on the Apexcones. Maybe now I have a change of heart.
So the quality wasn't there on the Apexcones eh? You liking your Depos that much more?
Dan
YES. I assume you are going off the info provided on the ddm site. I got the apexcones, which only save you $25. The inner housing was loose, a screw was missing, one lens was cock eye. Luckily I'm local so I went to DDM, and when I wasn't satisfied they exchanged for the Depos, much better quality. +1 to DDM for great customer service!
