wheels and rims

i was recently on craigslist looking for a cheap set of rims and wheels for the winter time... and i stumbled upon a thread where the guy like me has an m3 e36 but the wheels he bought are specifically for an e46 3 series... does that statement hold weight? i was under the assumption that all 3 series rims/wheels are practically interchangeable... any info would help thanks guys

They should be interchangeable, unless they are for an e46 M3. The rears won't fit.

Most E36 wheels will work, but E46 has different offset and you have to use two pairs of fronts iirc.
